Lovenkrands and Shola don't need to leave at all. They are adequate back up, and have proven this. I honestly wouldn't want any of our players to leave, other than Sol. I never want to wish for someone to be forced out of our club. I still think that if Smithy can take a big pay cut then we could still keep him for squad depth. It's only his wages that are the problem.
I would honestly rather play with 10 men than have him in midfield though, the amount of times we concede from silly free kicks he gives away is shocking.

I doubt we're gonna find replacements for that many players And besides, it's not as if we need to find replacements for our players, to be fair I think we need to find just more players. Our squad is seriously thin and situations like the one we're in proves that a couple of injuries can seriously stretch us. Keep Besty, Lover, Shola, Ranger - they'd do as decent back up. Keep Guti and Simmo definitely. Willo + Saylor to stay, we only need to buy one more CB - need 4 CB's altogether so keep Saylor and Willo as back up to Colo and new CB. And Guthrie's shown recently that he can put decent performances in. We can't afford to find replacements for all these players. For me, the only players I'd consider getting rid of are Perch, Sol and possibly Smudger.
I think we need to keep as many players as possible, as it is these players who have built up the team spirit we have now, and any replacements would (up to a point) be mercenaries and we would be back where we were 2-3 years ago. The players who can leave are: Perch Smith Sol Smith is a weird one, because I would far rather have him on my team thean on the oppositions. We need to keep hold of our current squad as much as possible, and improve/get more strength in depth during the summer.
For me, the only players I'd consider getting rid of are Perch, Sol and possibly Smudger. ________________________________________________________________________ We should never have gone in for Campbell in the first place. Couldn't believe it when I first heard it at the Carlisle friendly. Perch has been absolutely useless and a liability. Smithy has been a great player in his career and has a great head and heart but unfortunately his legs have gone.
With Acid Hippo here...Think some of you need to remember where we are as a club! Simpson has improved 10 fold this season and cost us ã0.6m, Williamson cost us ã1m and for value for money, these 2 are outstanding! Our team are 1 dimensional without Jonas, Harper is the loyalest of all our players and a legend at our club... I understand this being a hypothetical thread, but does hypothetical have to mean unrealistic?
Simpson's done nothing wrong since he came and made a massive improvement to the defence. Willo has been a rock and is very dependable, and at the price we got him for an absolute bargain. Jonas works his socks off and plays for the shirt, one of the hardest workers we've got. ( If only he'd learn to wave to Tash.) Harps has been nothing less than the perfect pro and deserves some kind of recognition for his loyalty.
Why the **** do we need to replace Best? He's an great striker and was doing well for us. Aswell, we could keep Guthrie, Saylor and Simmo as they are good players. Jonas is also a keeper
We were 10th when Carroll left, we're now 11th. So I don't see what peoples' problems are with Best, Shola and Lovenkrands, they're good enough to keep us up should we need to rely on them. I want to see a very good striker come in to play up front with Ben Arfa, but the three we currently have are perfect back up, they score goals, they aren't on huge wages and they won't throw their toys out of the pram if they're not starting every game. We don't need to get rid of them, they're ideal squad players. Smith needs to go, I can't see him ever playing for us again and he's on a ridiculous wage. Campbell will be released, I'd like to see us sign a better centre half (Samba) to play with Coloccini. If we can't get a quality defender I'd rather give Kadar Campbell's place in the squad than sign a squad player. Perch and RTaylor can stay or go. They're not brilliant, but they're on modest wages and as a last resort they could do a job during a crisis. I though Perch looked quite tidy when he played centre half against Arsenal in the League Cup, and Taylor has his moments, he's scored some good goals for us and against us. We're not blessed with talent on the right of midfield, and I'd rather see Taylor, who gives us some natural width, play there than Guthrie.
I'm not sure why so many people would mind seeing Jonas leave. He is more than adequate as a winger i think. He is experienced in the PL, can take people on and particularly away from home he is our only outlet at times. Whenever i speak to fans of other teams about our squad the same three players seem to stand out for everyone: Nolan, Barton and Gutierrez. Out of our left side duo i think i would rather keep Jonas than Enrique tbf. First team player who i reckon we need to keep: Krul Colo willo (for the partnership at CB) Barton Tiote Nolan Jonas HBA Best Shola (somewhere in the squad) Ranger Raylor (utility sub, for the inevitable stage of the season where we have 6m suspensions/injuries Expendables: Harper Simmo Perch Smith Lover Staylor Sol Guthrie Enrique does sadly appear to be out the door. So whether he is replaceable or not isnt really worth considering! If he stays, great. If he goes, replace.
To everyone getting their knickers in a twist.. I never said I wanted them replaced or that they werent good players, It was more tongue in cheek, I was just putting down the players that are indispensable, some that could be replaced easily and some that I felt could leave and it wouldnt make a difference, I wasnt saying I specifially wanted rid of anyone.

Jesus Christ! The way some of you go on you'd think we're surgically attached to these players. From my list of 'replacies' I didn't mean for every single one to go, but if one or two of them were to go and were replaced adequately I wouldn't lose sleep over it, whereas if the top list were to vanish I'd be gutted
Shola & Lover can still do decent jobs. I'd be bothered if we sold Simpson, Jonas or Williamson as we don't have the money to get in that many replacements...
