I like Townsend and he is enjoying a great start to his season, but to start him today against such opposition would have been a bigger gamble than playing Dempsey and so I don't have a big issue with AVB choosing Dempsey. I read somewhere that Dempsey had done 11,413 air miles this week and he was blowing out of his backside after 30 minutes today. He got a brief second wind in the 2nd half, but he was off the pace today. He'll be fine next week.
He is inferior to Lloris, come on TMT are you really that blind you can't see that. HE IS CAPTAIN OF FRANCE, ONE OF THE BEST KEEPERS IN THE WORLD, FRIEDEL IS NOT AT HIS LEVEL - THERE CAN YOU SEE IT NOW i've nothing against Brad, he's a top keeper and a great bloke, but he ain't in Lloris class, it's like buying Falcao and putting him on the bench because JD's in form, it's that ridiculous.
I sincerely hope Lloris does understand, because I for sure don't understand such treatment of the French captain and one of the best keepers in the world, just coming off the back of a wonder show against Spain in Spain Un****ingbelievable Also IF Dempsey was tired, which I would expect him to be, it made no sense to play him instead of Townsend, but really I don't care about any selection decision except the Lloris one, because that was so obvious. Along with Bale he's one of our two best players, the only two that can be thought of as world class, and I think goes better for Lloris than bale because of his greater experience at the top level, and yet unbelievably he was on the bench - I can't get over it - it'll take a long time for me to come to terms with this one. Lloris is a far better shot stopper but Friedel is better at commanding his area. Not sure about distribution but I'd imagine Lloris is better. One of the big worries AVB may have had is dealing with Chelsea from set pieces. AVB will have looked at our win over Arsenal and identified that as a possible weak point. That and Friedel did well for Spurs v United. Agree with you on lots of things re: AVB GHoddle10 but this isn't one of them. I honestly don't think the GK made the difference, the big loss today for you guys was Dembele for sure or a midfielder that could dictate and keep possession.

Coming to the party late today.... The Good Defoe, Lennon, Verts, Caulker The Average Friedel (don't think he was responsible for any of the goals), Sandro, Ade (briefly) The Bad Dempsey, Sigurdsson, Livermore, Huddlestone The downright Ugly Gallas, Walker Ultimately we were well beaten, and didn't deserve anything from the game despite a decent improvement for the first 17 mins of the 2nd half. We seriously missed Bale and Dembele - and didn't appear to have a settled idea of how to play without them. We imploded defensively at times - especially in the latter stages - and could have conceded more. Walker was responsible for both the 3rd and 4th goals. His positional awareness and failure to identify threats is becoming a serious worry. And his forward contributions don't compensate sufficiently for that. Hudd is not fit and Dempsey, Sigs and Jake need to start performing. But having said that..... we COULD have got something from that game despite the absences. So all is not lost and AVB continues to handle himself and the Media pretty well. Finally - can something please be done to stop this continued diatribe about our goalkeepers. It has long ago ceased being simply annoying....

Fair enough TMT, I apologise, but I hope you at least understand my point now. I'm not saying Brad is a poor keeper, but that he's inferior to a world class keeper that for some unfathomable reason AVB thinks is best suited to the bench.
Yeah, I was agreeing with that but just saying with hindsight I don't think he could've done a whole lot worse than Dempsey. Yeah, you could tell Dempsey had heavy legs out there when he was striking the ball. Personally I never really saw Townsend as a player that would become good enough for us but I'm encouraged by the way AVB clearly does rate him.
With regards to the keeper situation lets just leave it at that. We all know what you think about the two keepers, Ghoddle, so there's no need to keep bringing it up it's getting tired reading about it and then reading complaints about it.
In your previous comment you made it sound like you were at the game, you said you didn't see Gallas score, or Brad at fault...you sure you weren't standing outside?
Well I think I have every right to bring up the subject when I have seen my team lose, partly due to a ridiculous decision by our manager. Also, to justify my own viewpoint on this matter which is often criticised but in fact is spectacularly right, and some of the people who don't like it are those who have have been caught out big-time after calling my views 'naive' and 'garbage'. So I'm enjoying pointing just who was the 'naive' one 'talking garbage'. However, I won't bring the subject up again in this thread, except to answer comments. Let's see what happens for the Southampton, hopefully AVB will see sense and we won't have to go through this again.

It is a correct statement. My tone is mild compared to some of my critics, who kicked this whole thing off by their attacks on me. I trust you are asking them to tone it down as well, because some of them need to tone it down a lot more than me. I don't result to insults, offensive emoticons and going round calling people 'naive' and 'talking garbage'.
That No2 keeper you got is very fookin good. Looks to be a world class keeper. I think he'd be already in if he hadn't opened his big fat french mouth. Kinda leaves AVB no choice if he starts gobbing off, what mesage would it send even if it is right to put him in, a message that if you are unhappy go blab to the media. No, AVB is handling this guy. When AVB decides he'll play.. he'll play, not when he whinges.
