Is there a better blossoming trio of midfielders in any other squad in the Premier League? Suso is a future contender for Ballon d'Or in my opinion. The ball he played to Suarez today from a volley was something out of an old FIFA game it was that ridiculous. The guy reminds me of David Silva so much, great on the ball, fantastic distribution and a real sense of flair to boot. Sterling showed again today why he's still not the finished article, but at 17 years old that's perfectly normal. He occasionally gets caught in two minds as to what he should do in the final third but the boy can definitely finish (look back at his goal in pre season too). He's a natural talent, hopefully he will develop into one of the most exciting wingers in the Premiership. Shelvey's form has dipped a bit of late. But he just oozes confidence, he plays as if he's won everything in the game and yet is never overly complacent. Strong on the ball, great in the final third and a natural leader. Future captain material for sure. Honourable mentions also to Henderson, Wisdom, Robinson and Allen (who everyone forgets is just 22). The future's bright, cheers Rafa!
Exciting trio. Where do you think Suso will play in the future? Wide forward? Attacking midfielder? False 9?
I think he's a player who thrives on space so attacking midfield is definitely an option. But he also reminds me a lot of Fabregas so maybe a false 9 position could work, would have to see how he is in front of goal I think.
Bit deeper box to box a la Gerrard. Can do both sides of the ball pretty well. Or two AM him and Suso linking and playing off each other with Allen/Lucas cleaning up.
If only there was a young striker to play as an out and out box man, to go with these three exceptional talents. Just scraped that 1-0 today despite our often fluid and stylish attacking play! Same old same old.
Our first team youth players: Gk? Wisdom - Kelly - Coates - Robinson Hendo - Allen Suso - Shelvey - Sterling Yesil Borini, Flano, Wilson, Morgan, etc still left too
Suso will be world class when he is 23, if he keeps his feet on the ground. Sterling needs to work on his finishing, but he is gaining confidence in each game. Shelvey, he needs to work on his first touch. True, exciting times ahead. Sahinis only 23. Suarez is world class . FACT. Borini is 21.
Whats your definition of world class pal? Mine is 'a player that would make it into a world squad' and IMO Suarez wouldn't, especially playing the role he is currently playing for us
Lets not all get carried away. They've all played well and hopefully they have bright futures but we've seen similar with Nemeth, Pacheco, Mellor all doing awesome at youth/reserve level then failing to step up. I know these 3 have performed in the first team (although Suso & Sterling only in a handful of appearences) but it's still early days. They've got the potential and I think we have the right manager to unlock that potential but they need to have the right attitude as well. Let's see how the cope this season and we'll have a better picture of how they are going to progress. Remember, they've not visited a cold wednesday night at Stoke yet, and we all know that's the new barrometer for how good a player is.
All three are great players for their age. I think calling Suso world-class or destined to become world-class is a bit premature. If he continues improving- it is possible. Some players get as good as they're going to get early. Some slow down their improvements. Right now he is a good youth player. Glad we have him- but not expecting Balloon D'Snore for him as a "likely" occurrance. It is easy to get carried away- especially after a win... but that was Reading for goodness sake... and there were many scary moments in the 2nd half that could have denied us a win. Glad we have all three- but they're not world class... at least not yet.
Agree. He's too wasteful to be called world class. Put him slightly wide (not hugging the touch line) of a proper striker and I think he'll score just as many goals as he does through the middle. I'd love to see Sterling left Suarez to the right and somebody like Huntelaar or Llorente through the middle. Suso or Shelvey competing for the AM role behind them. That team would have plenty of goals in it.
Agreed All very good prospects...but at the moment that's all it is. Talk of Balon D'Ors is laughable. Suso (as much as I really rate him) was poor for large parts yesterday, getting out fought on quite a few occassions. Sterling is a rough diamond and at such a young age will have that rawness about him for a couple of seasons yet. Shelvey also has massive potential but has the impetuousness of youth and tactically needs to put a lot of work in still. I actually think Wisdom has looked like our most consistent youth player so far. Has hardly put a foot wrong since his debut. BR is lucky to have such a wealth of talent to work with from the youth set up but he absolutely has to manage them correctly too. The fact is that we have to gauge their progress more from games like the next two away games than from a game like Reading at home.
