Hello and welcome to the all new and improved Match day Hub which is now the official place for Gillingham fans, I decided to update this so that you will know where to go and chat before and during the game.
I always post this a few days before the match so you can start to create a debate before the game on what you think will happen in the upcoming game, you can post who you think should play in the game and why. In addition to that you may share with us what you think the team will be that plays as that may be different to the team which you think should play, if you think a certain player should not play you can share with us the reason why as it is good to know what the fans think about the team and why certain players should not be in the team if you want to tell us why.
So all you need to do is post your starting 11 plus the 7 which you think will be on the bench, you may be correct or not but it don't matter as no points are awarded it is just for fun.
If I am not at the game I will normally post updates about what is going on and the team which is playing, but when I go to games I write up a match report afterwards.
You can post freely during and after the game sharing your opinion with us on the result and what you thought of the players who played. If you go to the game it would be great if you could write up a match day report telling up what you think of the result and what you rate each player out of 10 giving a reason why.
This is open to both Gillingham fans and also the opposition, don't be afraid to post just because you are not a Gills fan if it is friendly banter that is allowed.
Have fun and debate freely!

Just want to add aswell if you do any bets you can share with us what you think is the best bet, I do bets each week so I will share them with you if you want.

I may be at the match on Saturday, don't know yet but if I am I will write a match report after the game.

I think that the team will be like this

Nelson

Fish (hopefully he ain't injured as he hurt he took a knock last weekend)
Flanagan (Wish Davies was in the team though as he is quality)
Barrett
Martin

Whelpdale
Payne
Montrose (I would not put him in but I feel MA will, I would go with Dack instead and have Payne as an anchor man and Dack going forward)
Allen

Kedwell
Weston

Subs
Forecast
Frampton
Davies
Dack
Lee (Hopefully he will be back)
Burton
Findley

standby for Not606 meltdown ! ...... sorry Hoadie - I felt the need to have a go at you - so that I didn't look too mean having a go at Bernadette earlier.
..... you see it's easiest if I am horrible to everyone.

Hoadie - I could be wrong but I think you have said to write a report several times and not done so?

Obviously would appreciate anyone writing a detailed report after any of the games, just to up our profile a bit more on not606.

Just a few tips to help, write the report in something like a word document and then paste to the thread. The spacing might initially be out once pasted but after a few attempts and alterations you will soon get used to the layout.

Please do not copy and paste any articles from other sites, only use your own work. I can generally trace copyright stuff to the original source.

Word is an ideal document and also protects your work in the event of unforeseen site failures. Also it protects your work for any future reference. I know posts are now auto stored so comments are protected but such does not apply to threads if you are creating a new article.

Great team performance even with one or two players below par. Absolutely towering performance from Montrose who was the best player on the pitch imho. The sponsors must have been watching a different game to choose Weston whose contribution riled Allen and who only just squeezed his goal in before being substituted. The decision to replace him had already been made.
Burton were good and they closed down the Gills very effectively. The impressive thing from Gills perspective was the ability to raise their game when Burton scored. There was no loss from Wright's absence, in fact Montrose's ability to get forward added a dimension to the team, i just hope he can keep it up. Despite them both having "golden " moments in the game, Fish and Barrett seemed off colour to me. Fish lost the certainty of touch that he has had in recent weeks and Barrett struggled with Zola in the first half but as a team the unit was great.

Today was brilliant. I am so proud to be a Gillingham fan with results like that, from the start to end we looked in control, Burton only got around 5 minutes in the match after half time when they were allowed to get into the game but straight after we countered them and got a third and then soon after a fourth. Today was a day for the defenders; they had a massive role so who needs strikers when you have Gillingham defenders.
I think that every single player had a role in the result however there was the few who stood out from the crowd and impressed me a lot today.
Nelson 7- Dealt with what he had to deal with, looks as good as he normally look, goal he conceded was not really his fault as he thought it was going the other way (not fully sure if it look a touch off Flanagan even though I was close to that end).
Fish 8- He was very good today, played the ball well got it forward got back well and also scored a decent goal with his left foot which is rare, it was a nice goal aswell with how he got the touch on it and just pushed it right into the corner of the post and crossbar.
Flanagan 7- He is starting to play much better, he did make a bit of a mistake but it was not just him at fault with the Burton goal however he was good in the air and played well and also his goal was of a good standard defiantly for a centre back.
Barrett 8- He was superb today, the way he plays is so good, he is the sort of player who is brilliant to have in the team as he is not just a good player but he is good in the air and he has a wealth of experience which is very important for us to have when we are going for promotion as he knows what he is doing and he does his job well, I am not sure if it was him but I think it was (correct me if I am wrong) but I think he was the one who cleared the ball off the line with an overhead kick, if it was him that was absolutely stunning.
Martin 8- He was brilliant today, one of his best games for the club, he got forward well, played the ball down the line, linked well with Whelpdale and Montrose and also got back well, also his goal was top quality and is very good to see when he only gets a goal a season on average.
Allen 7- He played well, he was in the game from start to finish and is the sort of player who is important for the club, and he worked really well in our passing game today and got the ball forward to Weston well.
Payne 6- While he was on the pitch he done well, he linked well with Whelpdale and Weston and done his job well getting back and going forward, think it was the best decision to take him off at half time due to the yellow card which was a tad harsh after they took out one of our players if I remember correct.
Montrose 8- This was one of his best games, I have not seen him play so well in the holding role that he played in, I wish he played like that each week as he would be a brilliant player to have in the team, he got back well and played the ball forward well, he was really important today, well done Lewis!
Whelpdale 8- What a top performance he could not do much more, if he had a goal or two this would be 10 out of 10 for him, without him today we would not have played half as well, this is the type of performance which shows us why we brought him to the club, he linked so well with Weston and played him through many times, he got back so many times and helped Joe out a lot and got the ball and played it forward with a lot of effectiveness and also he is playing left side of midfield which is not is normal position.
Kedwell 8- His link up with Weston was top class today, he was top class and was so important in our win, his link with Flanagan was brilliant and he played through Weston and Whelpdale during the game, he is starting to build up a few assists this season, only thing he is missing is a few goals from open play.
Weston 9- Man of the match from start to finish, I think from the first minute of the game to when he come off he was the best on the pitch, the ball in the air worked so well with him and he absolutely destroyed Burton with his runs, he was unlucky to have only 1 goal as he worked so hard and was through on goal many times, his finishing is so good and I am so happy to have him in the team, his goal was good, if he had 1 or 2 more this would have been 10 out of `10.
Subs
Dack 6- Done his job run along the line well did not have too much to do, not much I could say about him.
Findley 6- He tried to run with the ball a few times but unlucky not to get 1, he was through on goal one time and took down, should have been a red I personally think as he was last man however it was only a yellow, I don’t think Findley wants to be at the club too much really and think he may be going back at the end of this month but it has been good to see him at the club.
Strevens 6- Done his job come back and got forward a bit but after then we did not really play to him too much, not much I can really say about him.
Overall I am very happy with the performance, this is one of them games where we have been on full power and it makes you proud to be a gills fan. 8 goals in two games is a good record and I now feel that we are on good form at home, like I said man of the match is the same as the official one mine goes to Weston he was so good today and he was unlucky not to get more than 1, for a second I thought he would score at 14 seconds but that would be too quick. Montrose and Whelpdale also were close but it had to go to Weston for the standard of performance he gave.

I really enjoyed this game today and it is so refreshing this season to see some decent football in L2. Weston might have opened the scoring within the first minute, although I was to far away to decide whether he should have put it away.

Burton were completely different to Aldershot last week regardless of the score line. They were not going to roll over but came up against a far better team today in the Gills. To me the deciding point of the game came just before half time, when we were 2-0 up. Burton looked to have pulled one back just before the break, somehow Barrett made a spectacular over head kick off the line. I cannot remember the last time a player received such rapturous applause for a single momentary non scoring action during a game. I think he may have even have been slightly embarrassed by the attentive response, duly responding with a thumbs up I believe towards the Rainham End?

If that goal had gone in then Burton would have been fired up for the second half, bearing in mind they scored within nine minutes of the second half.

The WHOLE Gills team were having none of it and properly demolished Burton and then just sat back for the last 15 minutes. I think Burton's failure was not using the width of the pitch in the first half, their number 19 kept waving his arm like a lunatic and never receiving the ball, when he did receive it and despite the Rainham End boo's aimed in his direction, he proved to be the most potential threat. Must note also the Burton keeper made a couple of critical saves incoming out for the ball.

To me the Gills are forming a shape now and despite my beginning thoughts on oh no not Montrose, he turned in a performance that impressed me.

I have been trying to decide my MOM and am having great difficulty as the whole team were. However, a decision has to be made and for applying himself against all adversity (probably the wrong use of word) Lewis Montrose.

Thought it was a really good performance today against a fairly good Burton side. To be honest the match could have ended about 7-4...!

Defensively we really did struggle against Zola as he practiaclly won everything in the air, but thankfully they didn't make the most of this. However going forward we looked like causing them trouble every time.

Plus had the added entertainmant of the (drunk\deluded??) old Burton fan in the Medway stand upper tier. I was up there as well and although it seemed like good banter, he and his party did get chucked out after one of them started to get a bit agitated.

I have to add my appreciation for the performance shown by Montrose. He has had some stick from me this season, but today showed that he can play football. I hope that he can take confidence from the performance - against a useful Burton side into the rest of the season - just as Fish seems to have done.
I was very pleased with the overall performance of the side - just as bristol 407 has said, The Gills raised their game for a better opponent - and were too good even for a team that had been unbeaten in 8 games - having only conceded 7 away goals this season.
Just another 50/55 more points should secure promotion - but those points will have to be earned - so no room for complacency.

Another 3 good points. Still a long way to go though. Taken 2 months to build up this lead and it can easily vanish within a few weeks so the coaching staff need to prepare against complacency

Great result today guys especially as I had you to win 4 1 in our prediction league so thanks for the 3 points <ok> Noticed Kedwell came off today was that tactical or did he pick up an injury?
