Come on then Dan - what was the quiz question?

    Was it:-
    How high is a Chinaman?
What is the biggest drawback in life?

According to the ITV journalist who was there, he initially refused - then his aide paid it for him.

Of course, we all know who will really be paying it. :(

Was he buying the train for that sum? He could have had a ride in the back of a car with driver for less than that.

evening all. Long day, culminating in huge disappointment while watching Leeds scum. But now just relaxing, and about to catch up on being Liverpool, my favourite car crash tv programme. The great thing about it is that Brendan Rodgers comes across as a complete twat...loving it! lol

Yeah, as of one of my previous threads about BR, I've seen a few of those programmes over here. It makes me chuckle every time. My Mrs thinks it is worse than the TeleNovelas (Soap Operas) she watches and that is saying something !! :)

<laugh> he must have such a huge ego to agree to do it, i'm surprised Liverpool let him, since he'd only just started there...it makes him look ridiculous, and arrogant beyond belief!

Morning all, very wet here at present and not forecast to let up all day. :(

Looks as if I have been deemed fit enough to push a shopping trolley around a supermarket today, but the bottle stocks have become very low. <yikes>

Enjoy your day Al, a good win would be great. Yorkie is in France and I would like to give him good news when he gets his match report this afternoon. ;)

In what universe would you want the Chancellor of the Exchequor NOT to travel first class - a communist one? For goodness sake he and the PM , leaders of other parties etc will always travel first class. Does anyone think he actually arranges his own travel - blimey any tinpot manager in a small company usually has a secretary to do that for them. The mistake here is whoever booked the ticket did not book it forst class. Virgin have said as their take on the story "man boards train and pays for upgrade"

After the drubbing that Northampton took at Barnet last night, Aidy thought that his team had been overawed by being on the same pitch as Edgar Davids.

One of the fans who travelled to see the game has come out with words to express his feelings. " Message to Aidy Boothroyd...fine words butter no parsnips!"

Maybe so,Leo - but what grates with many is possibly the arrogance that was displayed in, according to the journalist eye witness, refusing to budge, upgrade or 'travel with the general public'. Especially crass after the recent Mitchell affair, I would say. And Virgin's take on the story is perfectly understandable given their need to tread carefully over the next nine months.....

As to him not arranging his own travel, well who knows? As Regional Manager for a Commonwealth Government Dept in Australia, I certainly never viewed myself as tinpot and I always arranged my own travel, as did all my peers. It may well have been an inadvertent mistake, but given the amount of travel someone in his position must do, I would contend that booking first class travel would be second nature - so I for one am not so sure about it being a mistake. When it comes to politicians and their expenses, I may simply have a suspicious mind - but yesterday's revelations about his fellow Tory MP's and their 'legal' rent fiddle makes me wonder about what else he and they get up to with taxpayer money. I guess that I simply don't trust them.:(

Hmmm. Equally I think in this country we tend to love to pull people down. I trust the words of a journalist as much as those of a politician. In first class you are still with the general public but have a little more space and if you are working - which I suspect he was he would need a degree of privacy. I always booked my own journeys but that was preference - most managers I worked with who had secretaries left that to them - I tried to avoid having a secretary. Given he will have an army of people to look after him I would doubt he should waste his time looking up train times and fares.

Andrew Mitchell is an arrogant fool but was his action a resigning affair - only because the media could sell stories blowing it out of proportion - let's face it the policeman who stopped him cycling was an arrogant fool too - using his petty power. If we expect all our politicians to be snow white we will be disappointed - I have no idea how competent Mitchell was in his job but if he was good at it then his resignation does no one any favours

I suppose I have no political affiliations so look with a jaundiced view at them all - and often see righteous indignation from one party at another where they would defend their own. We sitll have a long way to fall to reach the poloitical standards of many other countries

I would have thought that all MP's travel 1st class and claim for it on their expenses...and your right Lenny, there is no way that a Chancellor would be booking his own travel arrangements and I should hope not. He should be concentrating in getting this country of this financial mess...
