One of the very rare situations where I thought the series was better than the books it came from. Then again, I've not read them all.

Must admit, I found Montalbano difficult to get into as well, 1] because the Beeb brought him back [they transmitted a couple of episodes in 2008, to no great appreciation] in order to give Zen craving audiences another detective to watch, and 2] because I wasn't prepared to read subtitles back then.

I thought Zen was bloody fabulous frankly, and I was highly piddled off that one of the rare times one has the opportunity to watch high quality TV was taken away by a new populist channel controller who wanted more bloody Dr Who. Tbf, Zen cost a bomb to make, but then made a fortune in overseas sales too.
I have grown to like the Inspector Montalbano series simply because I decided to make the effort of reading the subtitles for one episode. Then I was hooked. It isn't as slick and classy as Zen, but it isn't trying to be, and I still have to be in the right mood to watch it. But you certainly don't get up from the sofa and wish for your 90+ minutes back, that's for sure.

Fan of crime series in general, especially Scandicrime. Can't wait for The Killing and The Bridge to return. Also like British series like Banks, Vera, Sherlock etc. Will try the new American series Elementary starting on Living...British actor of course.

I think that's going to stink so badly. I'm probably a bit of a Holmes purist here, and I didn't instantly take to the BBC's own Sherlock update [although, on the whole, I'm a convert now], but one of the essential elements of the Holmes stories is that the major interplay is between two blokes. It probably would have been better if the producers had chosen two women, although that would have brought its own differences. Sometimes it's better to just not make another Holmes series.

Generally I'm not a fan of crime series, as there is enough tragedy and misery in the world without looking for the fictional variety. But occasionally, if it's done really well, and the tumblers fall into place, I'll watch it.

Can't say I've been paying attention to this. UK politics is just so dull.

    Thank you, good sir!

The McDonald's method, based on the advert for the McFlurry (I think), involves suggesting to a friend that you become more than just friends in a very, direct and unsubtle way, though I didn't do it in a McDonald's because they're disgusting. I didn't think it would work, but in the interests of science....

Knew he was a goner when his leader officially backed him. Up until then he had a chance of staying out. Not that I'm a fan. Got what he deserved for being a bit of a quotable gobby one.

Well I think that Leeds are going to be in trouble after one of their "fans" ran on to the pitch tonight and decked the Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper.

Antonio playing well but Leeds are lucky to be drawing 1 1.

Dave Jones is really giving it large about the Leeds fans, he wants the lot banned, I have to agree with him, what happened tonight is a total disgrace.

Anyone watching Obama's interview with Jon Stewart on The Daily Show? We could really do with someone with his charisma over here. I love the man.

It used to be on fairly regularly on FX, but I think they stopped showing it some time around 2009. And annoyingly you can't access the online clips from the UK, though I still them appearing on my newsfeed on Facebook as I'm a fan of the Colbert Report page.

I'm watching it on Alibi or Universal, one of those channels. Have you ever seen Republic of Doyle?

No I haven't. I rarely sit down and watch any TV. It was only by sheer chance, and the fact that I've read a few Aurelio Zen books that I caught that on TV.

The problem with Zen is each episode is too long. I like to break it into two parts
