Wouldn't be the first 1/4 shot to get turned over Ardent..(I do agree that it is in this case rather fanciful mind you!)

I remember a 25/1 shot winning a "two horse race" in Scotland two weeks ago against an ex premier league team who traded at much less than 1/4 prior to K.O. <whistle>

Stirling I believe were 25's and won 1-0...?

Before I forget Toppy, Jedward gets the first time cheekpieces both of us were longing for in the 2.50 Catterick. Looks well very well handicapped off a mark of 84 and it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if she bolted in off this mark despite not being at her best the last twice. 14/1 looks a big old price.

I would absolutely love nothing more than Maarek to win the Group 2 in the 2nd at Ascot but he really looked like a horse who had finally succumbed to 9 runs since the end of March. Couldn't back him at 8s (although I would have been very keen if he hadn't run in a Listed contest 6 days ago when overturned at odds on)

3 for me tomorrow and I'll try get write ups done. Far, far too tired to contemplate them at the moment.

2.30 Cheltenham Rebel Du Maquis 16/1
    2.50 Catterick Jedward 14/1
    4.45 Ascot Compton 14/1

Is anybody running a book on which of the Muppets on The Morning Line will be first to suggest that there is a value bet in the Champion Stakes?

Frankel actually got a mention on the BBC Radio 2 news this morning, probably the only time that racing will be mentioned save the annual nod to The Grand National and The Derby.

There is no doubting that Cirrus Des Aigles (nine-length winner on heavy ground in a Longchamp Group 2 last time) and Nathaniel (just pipped in the King George but returning from a set back) will not be inconvenienced by the underfoot conditions; but the going is the only thing that can realistically defeat Frankel. Hopefully his turn of foot will not be blunted too much and he will bow out with a convincing win, although I have no expectation of it being greater than a couple of lengths.

Those of us that do not bet when the going is soft will be keeping our wallets in our pockets. If Excelebration is to be turned over in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, Elusive Kate may be the one.

I would like to see Great Heavens finish in a blaze of glory, but Shirocco Star may be the one to beat and will Abbaye winner Wizz Kid be exporting some of the prize money across the Channel with victory over an extra furlong?

Latest report from Ascot, they've been dry since 7.30pm and are set to be dry all day. Going remains soft on the Straight Course and soft, heavy in places on the Round Course.

I'm heading off in about an hour, see you all on the other side!

Winners look really hard to find today, so I'll speculatively put forward two progressive types..

    4.20 Cheltenham. Captain Sunshine.
After running second to the more than useful Balder Success, he won his last two races comfortably. More progress can be expected.
    Best price 6/1 (several)

    4.45 Ascot. Jack Dexter.
After three good runs, this three year old was a decisive winner of the Ayr Bronze Cup in heavy ground at the end of last month. Can show more improvement.
    Best Price 6/1 (Paddy Power).

Good punting and best of luck to everyone.

PS. In the Champions Fillies' Stakes, beware of Testosterone. She hadn't come to hand on her summer runs, but her Prix Vermeille form last year- when dividing Galikova and Shareta- entitles her to win this. A market move would be significant.
    Best price 22/1 (several)

I'm still hoping it's written somewhere in the stars for a Frankel, Nathaniel 1-2 finish. Finish as he started.

I'll be there today and I really can't wait! Will be som fabulous racing to witness.

Tartak is my nap of the day, dropped to a winning mark and very positive reports from the yard about him. If the Nicholls hotpot doesn't run to his potential then it will be wide open and Tartak is a class act. 16/1 is a nice EW price for him.

Done him in a double with Dodging Bullets too, who should prove too good for Baby Mix in receipt of weight.

Good luck all today, off to Cheltenham to spend £4.50 on a pint!!

Just put the race video up on Cyc's Caulfield cup thread - check out where Dunaden came from to win - he is in the yellow silks with the noseband, 3rd from last most of the race. Hit the link I posted and select Caulfield race 8. Awesome performance.

2nd lot of animals we've had this season after Millwall. Surely it's easy for Leeds to make fans become members to go to away matches make it all traceable? These yobs feel protected by the anonimity of the crowd. Although the cameras got a good enough shot of him so even South Yorkshire Police should be able to track him down. The saddest thing is, this had to happen at the very spot where those 96 Liverpool fans lost their lives because of fences that were put up to prevent dickheads like that getting on the pitch.
