...Chelsea's growth that was the most galling for a simple reason - every Tottenham fan considers ourselves to be a bigger club than Chelsea.

Yes, the rational side of us knows that those days are long gone...

...Are we living in the past? Certainly...

Seems like he was reasonable for the most part considering it was written by a fan. The match going fans bit doesn't really add up but most of the rest of it does.

But YV there is a rivalry according to him. That completely contrasts with your views <whistle>

I don't disagree that there's some level of rivalry and that it's fueled mostly by hatred between the fans. He and I do differ on whether it's always a big match though.

In fairness I see where your coming from to an extent.

When Spurs were midtable I never viewed it as big a match as it is now. I suspect the same is true of some Spurs fans. Like the NLD it's become bigger as the clubs are all closer to each other than ever before

This particular game strikes me as having so many extra reasons to hold a grudge that it's more fun and less bitter than usual. I can't exactly explain why, something to do with the idea that if you're a fan, you have to feel lucky a game like this comes along.
