So Terry has (probably) wisely decide not to appeal against the FA's findings. Hopefully the whole thing has finally seen the last air time it will see and everyone can get back to focusing on the more pressing issues of the here and now. Whilst John has issued an apology and been 'disciplined' by the club, I can't help thinking that this whole issue has been a bit of a set up from the get go. Call me paranoid or whatever but it seems to me at least that evn the FA's hearing smacked of Stalin-esque show trial symbolism. The FA appeared to be merely flexing their proverbial and theoretical muscles. The point of Anton's abuse going unpunished has been raised also which really does lead me to believe this while thing has been a fit up. I'm not a huge believer in conspiracy theories but John seems to have unwittingly fallen into soneones cleverly devised trap, either that or someone somewhere has taken the opportunity to put the boot in. (Excuse the pun). What do you lot think? It just seems to me all a bit tit for tat like a deal has gone done somewhere. How does him not being a racist but being punishe for using racist language come about? It all smells a bit fishy to me!

I think that had we heard the statement he gave out today a year ago, then none of this would have been necessary.

That's all I'm going to say about it now, because (as I said before) for me it's now over.

Sounded like a very sensible comment from WLW to be fair. Haven't seen any gloating and his view is echoed by most Rangers fans. I have a healthy mix of Rangers and Chelsea fans at work. Nearly all agree he clearly said what he said, he wasn't just repeating it back, it was an error of judgement resorting to totally inappropriate language to get a bite, however he is not racist, had he issued this statement a year ago it would have saved much pain. It's a shame a few are still trying to defend him. It really is time to move on.

Society has had a problem with this use of language issue because many people eff and jeff in the supermarket in front of their's and other people's toddlers. I've heard people **** and **** and **** and piss off while shopping in ASDA. The FA charged JT for using foul language on the pitch regardless of context. Their standard is one where you should communicate and respond always without any foul language. It is a high ideal and universally ignored in football as well as in ordinary life. JT could not appeal because he admitted to using such language, the context wasn't considered important. For those still struggling with that concept the FA insist (except usually they don't and ignore it) that one such as JT should of responded thus : " I say old thing do you think that I had called you something untoward? For I would never do that.". Simply that, to have used simple words. Anyone who thinks it is impossible not to swear in a rage just doesn't want to. You can, you don't want to, as a people we don't want to, which is why we have foul and abusive language as part and parcel of our daily lives. If it is acceptable in the stands why should it not be on the pitch?

I can't speak for everybody, only myself. I swear. All my career I work with children and people. I don't have any swear words I consider too obscene, if I want to say it I will and have, yet I'm not a hypocrite. This is because I do not swear in front of children or at work. I have never swore while at a football match (mainly because children are there). I can moderate my language. I do it because I care, not about me but about others. Swearing is a statement about one's own self and feelings, which is why I do it anyway. Yet I'm not so selfish as to swear habitually. What would be the point of that? My constant swearing would become meaningless and convey no power of my real feelings any more. It would be a waste of good anglo-saxon. Basically I know I can not swear in the wrong place at the wrong time, and since I'm no superman I can do it I know everyone can do the same. It is an matter of choice. There are those who will claim it impossible not to control their swearing, it just happens. Pile of crap. They are anti-social, they don't care, and they'd never admit to that, who would? The only reason I can see that swearing is uncontrolled would be if you were brain damaged or in incredible pain. Basically habitual swearing is learned behaviour and, here is the thing, not swearing is also learned behaviour. We are products of our environments, yet there comes a time when we can recognise that and decide if we want to change or not. Swearing isn't considered a high enough priority by our society. It is against the law to swear in public or display swearwords on a sign in public, yet rarely prosecuted.

We aren't a naturally introspective society. We have one, mainly to help the individuals in it attain a life they never could alone. If we wish to continue that we have to respect those others in life , i.e. everyone, who contribute to that society. What we have in the UK though seems to be a majority of people who only take and moan about it when they aren't satisfied and a small amount of people who end up giving far more than they should because they believe in the ideal of having a society and not an anarchy. You may think I've wandered too far away from JT and football and this specific incident, you may think that but you couldn't be more wrong. Life is not black and white, it is shades of grey and all we do and strive for impacts on everything and everybody else. Is the consensus that we should all swear and have it mean nothing? If so why would some words be worse than others? Does it actually hurt anyone? Does it actually damage society?

I am fortunate to have a choice. I can choose to not let anything I hear bother me and I'm fortunately strong enough an individual to do so. I would ask people though to think about those in this world who have their ability to choose taken away from them.

Not at all. Mines a general point and there are some who still try to say he didn't mean it. Re your conspiracy theory I don't believe that. Anton wasn't punished, swearing at each other is sadly part and parcel of football at all levels, including winding each other up. However racial abuse oversteps that mark. To punish Anton would have opened the flood gates for every player swearing, however you cannot allow racist language to go unpunished.

Right decision, let's hope this year of bullshit can be put in the past.

Crazy though, how Serbia (a country) just got fined pittance for blatant hateful racism and Terry (a man) gets 4 games and a £220k fine for a (let's all agree on this for now) stupid remark, the game really is in turmoil, don't understand how they came to these conclusions. The press are going to hang him out to dry aswell but let's face it they would've done that had he appealed anyway.

Jason Roberts isn't happy with the outcome and reckons a bigger and more harsh punishment should have been handed to JT.

'The four-match ban was, for me, not a heavy enough sanction for what happened,' said Roberts.
'I'm not happy. Certainly they should have given him a longer ban. The sanction is nowhere near harsh enough.'

It's his right not to wear a 'Kick It Out' t-shirt this weekend but why wait until now to make his views known?

Maybe Roberts decided to wait until all the evidence had been heard and the appeal procedure to run it's course before speaking so he wouldn't be accused of having a knee jerk reaction or of trying to prejudge the case

I have to agree I'm disinclined to believe that this was a set up or that there is any weight to him being targeted. It just seems that an issue that has been given this magnitude of coverage for what the issue actually was and how often this sort of thing clearly happens, he has been given a very bad wrap. Barely anyone says anything about Suarez but his remarks are arguably much worse. Let's not forget Hoddles famous gaff about handicapped people. Was he hung out in the same mannor?

Maybe, but considering the JT case had nothing to do with him maybe a dignified silence would have been better, if he has an issue with the punishment he could have always had a word with his union rep to put pressure on the FA.

He's been an attention seeking little rogue throughout all of this. I've found myself agreeing with Clarke Carlisle a lot of the time but people like Jason Roberts and Stan Collymore are idiots.

If you went up to a black person and repeated what JT said they'd just smile at you then?.<doh>

Not heard what Clarke has to say...but I disgree with your view of Roberts Drogs. He has every right to have an opinion...he might be wrong but he has simply given an honest opinion.

Page Moss No and thats not the point. What I'm getting at is why the media circus around JT and not anyone else. Should anyone else be so foolish as to say something similar and get caught you can bet you bottom dollar it won't take a year to sort out. If you want to be pedantic about his remark then Cole can't have been too bothered by it as he was standing right next to him and didn't bat an eye lid. Now take from that what you will. Either Terry and Cole are telling the truth or there is such institutional and common place racism at Chelsea that Cole was non plussed by it. Why do you think is the more likely?

Maybe he is of the opinion that racism is something that concerns everyone...and that he should give his honest opinion

Of course, I just think his way of voicing it is wrong. He seems like an arrogant ****er who doesn't want to hear other opinions besides his own, same with Collymore - who has no right taking high ground on any issue after beating his girlfriend.
