Ashley Cole Fine after sending Offensive tweet and apologising afterwards to FA Chairman personally - £90,000 Rio Ferdinand Fine after Choc Ice Tweet to Ashley Cole with no apology nor any remorse for his actions - £45,000 And then these mugs try and take the moral high ground with UEFA after lenient sanctions re: Racism. FArce
Cole's been hung out to dry here - it's disgraceful really. Mind you, it serves a a salutary reminder to every player to think twice before sending a tweet or posting on facebook.
Rio gets £45,000, Ashley gets £90,000. Think Ashley got £45,000 for his tweet and another £45,000 for complete lack of discipline. Twitter is a forum where dopey sportsmen can prove it.
Whilst Cole's fine sounds a lot to us, it isn't really going to hurt his pocket too much is it? I'm not too sure that what he actually tweeted was offensive. I doubt that a civil court would find Cole guilty of anything. So it does seem a bit like a public school where you get a beating from the prefects for something you haven't done and then have to thank them for the 'privilege'! I'm not going to go over the 'facts' again but both the Suarez and Terry cases show that the FA are an inconsistent bunch of idiots who employ procedures based upon little more than a general principle and then create criteria to fit the outcome that they believe best serves their purposes.
