Is still not for another 68 days ! ( although I have seen merchandise available in shops since August - before a lot of people have had their summer holiday !! ).
Although I am a committed Christian and would like to see Christmas celebrated for the 'correct' reasons, I accept that even the good Lord had presents at his birth - but I'm pretty sure that the three wise men didn't have to go shopping months ahead.
I thought that the country was in a recession - yet we are encouraged to shop until we drop from the earliest opportunity possible.
Please can we leave Christmas until December ?
< cue the ba humbug responses >

Jip feel free to move this into the moany bastard thread if you like !

I do my Christmas shopping on the 24th of December, nowt like a last-minute rush.

But I concur, October is way too early.

I woke up in the early hours this morning with the worst heartburn I've ever had. True story.

Well go to the chemist and buy some ant-acid tablets - and as it's the Christmas season they'll probably offer to gift wrap it for you.

    Utopia awaits.

But, if it all ends in tears and our independant country sinks like the proverbial, we'll be damn sure to take England down with us. Just for a laff.

As a committed atheist I celebrate Christmas for all the wrong reasons. Gluttony, greed, presents, excess, no charity whatsoever. Let's face it, that's what most people do but at least I'll admit to hijacking the Christian festival as an excuse to eat, drink (root beer) and be merry.

You always get non-Christians trying to say it was a pagan festival before it became Christmas, that a lot of the imagery is nicked from pre-Christianity (tree, holly, mistletoe etc) but I really don't give a flying feck about all that nonsense either. If I don't believe in Christ, God, Allah, Jehova, Buddha etc why would I have to believe in Druids?

And merry is exactly what I get, I LOVE Christmas!! Kids opening their stockings and presents, cooking the dinner (yes folks, I'm also a dab hand in the kitchen) mince pies, Quality Street, afternoon nap, crackers, silly hats, Eric and Ernie Christmas Special on the telly etc, its all fantastic.

I think the stocks of Christmas stuff put out on our shelves in August acts the same way as all other advertising and people will start to load up the baskets with chocolates, advent calendars and the like. I'm looking forward to this Christmas because last year was tough due to a serious illness within the family (not piles) so I hope we don't have to be as reserved this time round.

    Ding Dong.
