Well since he scored today he must have had a good game then? And against Ukraine in the Euros? His overall play for England is dreadful about 4 times out of 5. Other players offer more, simple as that.
A worrying result and performance. Having watched that I have to worry about the future for English football- I think that OXO, Wilshere(if he ever gets fit) and Hart are the only exciting young prospects. Hopefully, there will be a few more players breaking through but I really don't feel we can expect anything but decline over the next 5 years.
Hard to be too harsh on Rooney. He played poor but he scored. Hart on the other hand made a massive error and cost us the game
Hart makes one mistake in an otherwise solid performance and he cost us the game, but Rooney had one lucky moment of productivity in an otherwise poor game (as you yourself admit) and we're being too harsh on him?
Nothing wrong with Defoe's game. Unless Carrick, Cleverley, Milner and Rooney pass the ball better, he's not going to see a lot of it. So often strikers get the blame when it's not their fault they're not getting the ball.
Missed one presentable chance, but I'm inclined to agree. On current form he's the best striker we have by a distance.
Rooney's our best striker, full stop. Who else is there? Welbeck's clumsy and not prolific, Defoe's good at one thing only and we won't play to Carroll's strengths. Crouch has a good record but he doesn't do much for the team, any other strikers lurking around..?
A keeper shouldn't be giving away freebie goals. Especially not one that's extremely cocky and full of it
He said after the game that it was a pitch for long ball football, so why did he play Defoe up front on his own? Should have started with Carroll in that case. At least Oxo brought some life in to it albeit too late.
We got a draw away from home on a slow, boggy pitch in a delayed match. We didn't look brilliant, but the Poles didn't achieve that much with their possession. I bet it will go down as an OK result at the end of qualification.
