Messi often goes missing v Chelsea. I dont think hes scored against you either has he? Players tend to have a team or two that they seem to be unable to reach their best against.

Vidic always seemed to play poorly or get sent off v Liverpool.

Robin van Persie never looked good against United.

Ronaldo took ages before he started performing v Barcelona though now he always does.

Gerrard 05-09 was a force of nature. If he'd been playing in a stronger team he'd have been even better.

Cole has been incredibly consistent for years. Never injured, rarely makes mistakes, always solid.

Its no coincidence that the time period you mention happens to be when Alonso played for Liverpool.

He allowed Gerrard and his hollywood style of football to work. Once he went well, we all know what happened.

He wasnt a force of nature, he just had someone to do all the hard work while he took all the glory.

Alonso was and always will be the better player. Cannot believe the inept moron of a manager you had wanted to get Barry instead <laugh>

Alonso was a big part of 05 and 08/09, but now that he's gone, people forget how quiet he was for two seasons or so. But believe me, I agree to a degree - Alonso was brilliant, my favourite player when he was here.

Before all his quad/groin/hamstring injuries Gerrard was terrifying defences, especially in the CL. Back off him and he'd generally put the ball into the top corner. Scored some incredible goals and was the drive of the team. Yes Alonso (and Masch) were important but Gerrard was the lynch-pin - for Torres also.

NB - he's also famous for his exceptional work-rate! Or was, anyway.

Think he has 7 goals against Chelsea, 5 at the bridge, and we do ok at he bridge usually better than at Anfield anyway but always seem to concede sloppy goals, world class strikes or Lampard penaltys, so hopefully that changes next week, oh and the media have gone quiet on the Terry 4 match ban appeal, it surely has been 14 days by now.

Cole has been the best left bac in the world for about 5 years now. Nevermind his reputation off the field, on it he is always bound to be one of the best players out there. Always fights. Never gives up on in any circumstances. He is the reason we were able to win the Champions League last season. THAT goal line clearance against Napoli was absolutely crucial.

I am Welsh and to me Wales should have qualified for a tournament already, Euro 2004 I think it when they had Mark Hughes in charge and a 'drug using' Russia team outed them in the play-offs. Since then its been some hard to watch stuff, but Wales might not have the resources of an England but with Bale they have a matchwinner, a hgenuine matchwinner. But when they then have a 'newly appointed' captain who puts you in the **** away in Croatia, then we arent going to be going forward anytime soon
