Rooney may or may not be world class but even if hes not hes as close as you can get. Without doubt the best English player, the best of the last decade.

DL, you say you started supporting Chelsea in 1994. That would make you about 7 ( Sure you said you were 25 ).By any chance were you a Liverpool fan before then? You have the traits of one, the bitter delusional view of things.

No offence meant and apologies if you are older or younger <ok>

I think Cole, Lampard and Gerrard, even Scholes, are more suitable for such a title.

I dont, I am not including england in this just for clubs.

Gerrards* the closest of the ones you mentioned, Rooneys only second to Ronaldo in his time at United over the last decade.

Scholes has had a few poor seasons over the last decade especially prior to his retirement.

Lampard.... dont really rate him that highly.

    Cole.... just no.

Agree with that. They've all been World Class players at somepoint in the last decade or so. Cole in particular has been one of the best, if not the best left back in the World for the majority of the last decade, can't say anything like that for Rooney.

Lampard has never been world class. Gerrard hasnt really. Cole was a world class left back not a world class player.

Scholes who was world class was completely wasted to allow the overrated ****e of Gerrard and Lampard to hold England back for years. The decision to use the two completely incompatible players over one of Englands best midfielders of recent times was one of the worst in football. No wonder he retired, it was an insult.

Now imagine Scholes had been played where he should of been and ahead of the inferior players. A world class midfielder comparable to those currently playing for Spain right now. Likely we would of see a very different England during his career.

Gerrard was quite a bit better than Lampard imo though. The problem with Gerrard is he was a hollywood player, the centre of attention, the big 'I am'. that was his game.

Rooney was the player at United who at first provided for Van Nistelrooy and then Ronaldo. The one who made them as good as they were while at United. Ronaldo had the freedom of the pitch because of Rooney. When it became Rooneys time to be the top dog he scored goals for fun. He was the best player in the league and therefore world class. Now imo Rooney is better when hes playing like he was in the Ronaldo days, like he is now with RVP in the side. A creator, provider. The driving force behind United.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions and we all watch our players more than others but Rooney is a world class footballer, he would get into almost any side in the world. Barcelona are the only one he wouldnt and even then, it depends on the role you want him to play. Striker? They dont really have brilliant strikers. His other roles are occupied by erm...... yeh, the worlds best.

Rooney would walk into Chelsea, City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Madrid, Munich, Dortmund, AC, Inter and all the other top clubs.

Lampard and Gerrard were runners up for the Ballon d'or in 2005 and Gerrard won the official UEFA award for best player in that year. To deny that they were ever World Class is nothing short of ridiculous. To deny that they were better than Rooney has reached so far is just plain ignorant.

Don't know why you're talking about Scholes being wasted for England, you said Rooney's the best English player we've had over the past decade, which I and others disagree with.

As for Cole, what's the difference? If you're World Class in your position you're World Class full stop.

Erm.... Rooney should of been top 3 in 2010 but a small matter of Spain winning the World Cup and Messi being an automatic top 3 meant he wasnt. His poor Worlkd Cup didnt help.

However these awards mean **** all, absolutely **** all. They are a farce. Sneijder should be a winner for example but he wasnt.

Beckham has been a runner up twice ffs. Twice. Drogba a world class player has never won it. Loads of world class players have been nowhere near it. Means absolutely **** all. Ronaldo who should win it this year wont because hes not the love child of world football and hes not Spanish.

Gerrard was close to world class, Lampard was not. Scholes was moved out left to fit these two in. A move that the world laughed at us for. Its like Spain moving Xavi to accommodate some gung ho midfielder. Scholes wasnt English enough really, to technically superior for our tastes.

Its ok though, like any United I understand everyone elses players are world class and United players are utter ****e. Average players who are lucky to have SAF managing them or something like that. Though Fergies lost it apparently which confuses matters somewhat.

Heres a way to look at it, how **** would Messi or Ronaldo look in the england squad? VERY!

Being world class in a certain position doesnt always make you an all round world class player. Goalkeepers are not world class players but world class goal keepers. A world class striker isnt always a world class player. World class players for me can be put in a variety of roles. Messi can play a number, Ronaldo can, Rooney etc. Cole. Cant imagine him in midfield or CD. Pretty clear what I meant but..... hey....

........at least I dont claim City fans not turning up to watch their team against Dortmund are better than the fans who did go nor did I claim SAF was worse than a whole host of managers.

    Genuine ****tard arent I DL?

No I don't think Hazard is world class.

Torres and Terry were both world class but about 4/5 years ago. Both are still quality players now though but not what I'd call "World Class"

What's wrong with Beckham getting runner up? He was quality in his day. I wasn't saying only World Class players win it, I was just reminding you as you seemed to underrate just how good Gerrard and Lampard were 6/7 years ago.

The rest of your post again ise utter waffle, which I have no interest in contending. For what it's worth Rooney's performance when you beat us 3-1 at WHL a few years back is the best performance I've seen from a visiting Spurs player at the Lane. I do rate Rooney but he's one of many great club players we've had who's never really got England anywhere.

    You didn't rate Maicon then?

Rooney has usually always gone missing against us at the Bridge (like the Man U team) but he's scored a fair few against us recently (albeit most through dodgy penalties)

International football is below PL and CL football so it means nothing. Other than Spain ( who are incredibly boring ) International football is a farce these days. The best sides on that level would get battered by the best club sides so it doesnt mean a thing that Rooney cant drag a terrible england side to glory.

The rest of my post was in response to the usual bullshit aimed at all United players.

Beckham was a great set piece player but quite limited as a footballer. Certainly never anywhere near the second best player in the world ever. Just evidence of how little these awards tend to mean.

Gerrard is a technically poor player, hollywood style passes are all well and good and last minute screamers are always going to give the impression you are brilliant. Alonso was a better player imo, more vital to Liverpool during his time there and its no coincidence they are a pile of **** these days without him.

Lampard, just dont rate him. you clearly did. I don't. Same as how I consider Rooney world class and you dont.

The problem with England is Gerrard, Lampard, Terry. Typical english footballers. A technically superior midfield consisting of something like Wilshire, Cleverly and Rooney in the role hes playing for United would be miles better.

This just wont happen though, very sad.

And I assume knowing you that you consider Rio, Rooney and a whole host of United players have never been world class.

Have we ever had a world class player? Ronaldo aside.
