Reports suggest Scudamore is once again looking into the idea of the Winter Break. Personally I'm wholly against it but would like to here other views. There are benefits of a Winter Break: - Less Fatigue which means better performance levels throughout the Season - Less Injuries - Better performance for the national team at club level (not that I care) I can't speak for others but for me The Christmas/New Year Period is the time I look forward to most in the Calender. Come 11pm Christmas Day knowing that there is still something to look forward to before you go back to work/school/college the following week. For many people that live far or overseas that come back to the UK for the holidays, it's the only time of year they can sit down and watch football or go to a match. I think if you take that out it's a final slap in the face to the average football fan. Managers IMO are being selfish, many seem to only care about the players and are totally out of touch with the fans. I've always been wholly against the idea of a Super League but if they scrap FA Cup replays as reported and put in a Winter Break I'm all for it, because then the identity of English Football will be completely gone in my view
With you entirely, winter break is brilliant. So much football in such a short space of time is fantastic, players (and managers) earn enough not to complain. I think many a childs first game has been a boxing day fixture, where pretty much every stadium fills up.
Could have a winter break after the 3rd round of the FA Cup. Usually the time when the weather is at its worst.
But then when would you have the 3rd round of the FA Cup SD? If we have a Winter Break and it Snows for a week (likely given how cold it is already and global warming), the season isn't ending till June. That will overlap with international tournaments. IMO the only way you could have a Winter Break is if you A) Scrap International Breaks B) Reduce the number of teams in the top flight from 20 to 18.
I love the Xmas period for footie matches. You can't have a break if it means that you wreck the FA Cup replays... it is my favourite competition and it's very prestigious... Tarnishing it further would be shoite imo.
Bleedin ell--I've suffered no Blues for a fortnight for the international break! The idea of another one is not on!
I did say after the FA Cup. You are right it would be hard to organise, would inevitably mean more midweek games in August/September.
Yes. I don't think it needs to be as long as others do but it's important for the top players as well as youngsters. I too like the games around Christmas time but I do think it's unfair for the players. Keep the New Year's Day games but scrap the Boxing day ones and have a 2 week break from fixtures in January.
Everyone has a constitutional right to get fat on turkey and get hammered in the evening regardless of their wage or religion
If someone paid me £3m a year to do what I love, I'd be eating Brown Bread and Cereal on Christmas Day if I had to
