Not just the racism but the general abuse from the technical staff is disgraceful. Can these people be called humans? It's a football match, not a war! What has Pearce done to have a chair thrown at him? What have members of the England coaching staff done to be confronted in the way the Serbian coaching staff did. Most importantly, what has Danny Rose and others done to be subjected to racial abuse?

When some of our fans behaved like this in the 80s our clubs were banned from playing in Europe. Surely its about time a SERIOUS ban was enforced on these gions?

Bad enough when the fans act like ****s but when you've some technical staff doing so too.....

Btw Pearce deserves to have a chair thrown at home for not picking Grant Holt when he was temp England manager <laugh>

I have played against Yugoslavs and believe me I'm not exaggerating when I say knives have been pulled at junior football matches. They are a volatile, emotional and demonstrative race of people.

What's the betting that Platini and Blatter conjure up a way to blame England for this disgraceful debacle?

Our fault for picking black players no doubt. Its just provocation in the face of all the pseudo Nazis.

ah, so, england players get racially abused and beaten up, ref's response – RED CARD for an england player!

serbia should be kicked out of football for 24 months. let's see how they react to that...

...of course, it won't happen, cos fifa have no backbone. my guess is they'll be fined around €50,000.

Didn't Man City get fined just over £100,000 (I may be wrong) for coming out late for a Europa league match last season and shortly after Porto got fined stuff all for racial abuse?

The red card is bloody stupid. Of course you're going to be upset if you're subject to racial abuse!

it's a farce really. FIFA have got to man up, show some balls and ban the racist thugs for a reasonable period. unlikely to happen though.

A ban, as Superman suggests, is the only way to make progress on this subject. It would also serve as a severe warning to Ukraine, Poland and any other country where fans are still allowed to practise racist behaviour <ok>

Although having just found this link on wiki, there's a hell of a long way to go yet before the problem is eradicated <doh>

All we ever heard about 20 years ago was "we have to have professional referees. The game has moved on." This may be true to a certain degree but the rules of the game have only changed slightly. A foul is still a foul. A bad foul should still get the appropriate punishment. A really bad foul should still get the ultimate punishment.
I watched some old City games on Youtube and penalties were given for using a players shoulders to outjump him, for pulling his arm etc.
Now a lot of these "crimes" are not punished. And I believe a lot to do with it is the referee fearing for his very well paid profession. He wants to officiate as many games as possible to keep his earnings up. Rather than make the proper decisions, he and his mate in the stand assessing him will avoid the obvious. They want to be back for the return leg etc.
The Under 21's game would have been played in front of a fierce, nationalistic, vicious, racist (not just blacks) crowd and the referee would have turned a blind eye to what he chose to.
While the Serbs must be punshed, their attitude will not change in our lifetimes. We need officials brave enough to punish them at the time eg taking them off the pitch, rather than a committee deciding a month later when the heat has gone out of the situation.

Just seen this on twitter. Kind of reinforces the 'mixed message' approach to racism in football :-

The most frustrating thing about this situation is that we have been here before... Five years ago (I believe) when Serbia were fined something along the lines of £16k for racially abusing England players one being Nedum Onuoha, then fast forward a few years Nicklas Bendtner gets fined £80K for exposing some Paddy Power boxers and Serbia are at it all over again.. This is a huge decision for UEFA and FIFA and arguably a crossroads in the fight against racism in the sport, a ban is vital and an example should be made

perhaps if the serbs wear boxers with a racist slogan on them, something might get done about it...

the ref was just comical during the whole situation, there were headbutts and punchs being thrown but as soon as Danny Rose kicked the ball in the crowd he actually sprinted over to him to show the red card as though it was the most disgusting crime ever!

Nothing will get done to serbia over this, because platini hates us and takes any oppotunity to put the boot in, we will probably get charged for failing to control our players!

Yes! Bendtner fined £80k for showing his boxers, Porto fined £16,000 for racially abusing Balotelli.

That's the bit that whines me up, with the exception of the racism. Punching and kicking is a CRIMINAL offence, kicking the ball away is not.

If you are as angry about last nights behaviour by the serb's as i am, then go onto wwwfifa.com and tell them so, we need to be heard, so go on do it!
