Sadly UEFA/FIFA's record on racism isn't good. Only handing out minimal fines for this type of appalling behaviour Two questions: Why didn't the English management team not take action earlier during the game? Why didn't the referee take action about both the missile throwing and the racist chanting?
And how are the English FA going to approach it with UEFA having just fined a player found guilty of a racist remark ten days wages and banned him for four games - one game more than a professional foul. Makes us look a little hypocritical....
And that's the problem ... no set guidelines We need worldwide guidelines for players (say, 10 match ban) and clubs (say, banned from a comp for x amount of time)
But surely common sense should prevail! The FA could have taken much stronger action but chose not to.
I watched the whole game and the racist chants were easy to hear. Also the ref shows a second yellow to danny for kicking the ball, what about the Serbian players?. At least half their team started pushing and shouting at the England players, one went to head butt a England player. Then how about the Serbian coaches ran on doing the same, you can't tell me he missed all that?.
You're right I can't, I don't know what he did or didn't see or what he was thinking. I'm just hoping he deals with all appropriately in retrospect that would mean writing up the correct players for violent conduct, reporting the racism and hopefully rescinding Roses card. I'm also hoping / giving him the benefit of the doubt that he wouldn't have deliberately got the decisions wrong or missed them and that the situation he was put in was slightly different to his normal decision making environment. So not excusing him just giving him benefit of doubt until his report is submitted, then if it is a joke I will be more than happy to tear him a new one!
FIFA and UEFA are both pathetic organisations that are corrupt as **** (my opinion). I think the best solution is to ban home Serbian (and other racially abusive fanbases) fans from attending the games and play them behind closeddoors for x amount of games/months/years.
DTLW and SF4L, sit down and shut up lads. No need for it on here. As for the chanting, that is disgusting! Rose should have that sending off rescinded, anyone else would've reacted the same. I wonder what Mr Blatter's view is on the subject...
It is possible for UEFA to rescind any ban on the basis that it would be clearly excessive and this has happened in the past. Anyway that is just a side story. What happened was wrong, I haven't seen the full thing yet. Sounds like Steve Wigley was somewhere near the centre of it all. I don't think it's too sensible to start talking about what bans should be given to who, after a couple of hours. Let's see who is charged with what, I'm not going to write off UEFA before they've even had the chance to look at it all on Youtube.
It's not been mentioned in ages, we've both left it there. I just objected to someone saying we should nuke the Serbs. Don't start getting all high and mighty, especially so long after the event. If the moderators have issues they're big enough and ugly enough to handle themselves. And I agree, the chanting is undeniable and disgraceful. However I doubt they will overturn the sending off, but Serbia will probably get a piddly fine and a suspended points deduction similar to what Russia received.
If that is all they get then that is disgraceful! It is embarrassing! They should be ashamed and I expect some sort of statement to be made in the morning by the association.
It would be very interesting if UEFA used YouTube to review incidents. Having said that, if other organisations like the FA or FIFA did the same, it wouldn't surprise me if they just looked for the top rated comment and use that as a basis for their punishments.
Its about the only time that you would want Stuart Pearce as your manager, if **** kicks off then stand behind him
Kicking the ball into the stands in the face of an angry crowd is a good way to start a riot. It was also probably the easiest thing for the ref as it was hard to isolate where some of the fighting was coming from and booking a bunch of Serbian players could have also caused problems. So... just strictly from the referee's standpoint.... I think it is okay to book Rose and hope that FIFA/UEFA gets the rest straightened out later. What SHOULD happen is Rose gets the red with minimal/no further punishment and a big apology from everyone involved for the racist stuff. If any other English players started fights, they get reds as well. Same with the Serbs. And the Serbian players that were making racist chants should get further severe sanctions, and the team as a whole should be banned from further competition due to the behavior of both the players and fans. That, I wouldn't have a problem with. Of course what will happen is everyone gets a slap on the wrist and probably Rose ends up with the biggest sanction, which is of course ridiculous. It did appear that at least one Serbian player was trying to show some sort of empathy/solidarity with Rose by putting his arm around him so that was nice to see. Or was that just a coverup?
Serbia have a history of bad behaviour...quite an achievement when they are a relatively new country. EUFA should ban them...why should our players and players from other countries be subjected to this. I know it's harsh on decent fans, but it's also up to them to take responsibility for their countrymen's behaviour. Regrettably, I'm sure England have racist fans only kept in check by the response of neighbouring fans.
