Has anyone come across strange variations in what people eat throughout the country? Rissoles are a good example, havent seen them outside of S Wales, also had Lamb Doner with chips covered in curry sauce from a kebab shop in Suffolk (nice).
Sugar? Why, a big glug of that tomato ketchup you so love add all the sweetness you need, as would a chopped up red pepper. Yeah, ground cumin and coriander are fundamental to a chilli I reckon.
You mentioned cumin in yours I remember, didn't have that in mine. Was bloody lovely though eh, did you use chicken thighs? I've never seen or never heard of a Rissole before coming down here. They definitey don't exist in Manchester or Lancashire. That said, a decant pie doesn't exist in south Wales but does (oh ****ing yes) back oop north. And what's the fascination with corned beef pasties down here? In fact, let's be honest, a Risolle is just a corned beef pasty but in a ball with no pastry and a breadcrumb surround!!
Not sure of their origin. If anything, i'd say they were also a Welsh thing as they are popular and lauded down these parts. The Welsh equivalent of haggis.
I went to Aston university and some boozers in Birm had them on the menu. I never went anywhere near the filthy things <puke>
Don't use coriander in mine.. Not a fan of the stuff. Touch of oregano.. I'd say ***gots are a Black Country thing.. Done well they're bloody lovely. We don't really have a local dish round here. Nearest local speciality would be ***gots I guess. Pies are crap roun here all you get are pukka pies in the chippies. We have a tremendous Turkish kebab house. Never tasted better other than actually in turkey. We are also blessed with some top notch curry houses. Oh I don't put ketchup in my chillies it's a waste of perfectly good ketchup.. That said I don't think I have any purée so may have to put ketchup in.. Finished my garden.. Back is ****ing killing me..
Teaspoon of cumin seeds fried with the onions and peppers, well worth trying and yes thigh meat. I have friends in Wigan and yes pies and pasties are top notch up there. S Wales is obsessed with corned beef, ****ing weird.
No man, ground coriander seeds. The spice not the herb. Only herb I use is indeed oregano, straight from the garden. One table spoon of Tommy K for sweetness only, it's good for **** all else let's be honest!
Interesting one last night. I got home to see the slow cooker was on. I was expecting something else. I asked the unit what was in the slow cooker and she said "sweet and sour chicken". "What?! In a slow cooker?". Anyway, I had it with mashed potato and 2 rounds of bread and Lurpak. It was fu.king gorgeous! Highly recommended. I'm having it again tonight
