Anyone catch the documentary on BBC4? Tap Kwality http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01n8kmq/Squeeze_Take_Me_Im_Yours/
I remember that as an Irish dance hall. Then all of a sudden all these cool bands were playing there. It was bizarre.
I saw it, it was great. Difford and Tillbrook were geniuses. Pulling Mussels From A Shell and Up The Junction are two of my favourite songs. Just a pity they had that self obsessed pretentious twat Holland in the band for short spells. I see they are on tour as well.
Difford and Tilbrook learned how to play instruments and write songs when they were kids, back in the day when learning the guitar and how to put a song together was how it was done. The current crop of wannabees think all you have to do is turn up at the X-Factor auditions with your baseball cap at a jaunty angle and you will be signed up on the spot. Who will be humming tunes from One Direction in 20 years time? I was amazed how many Squeeze songs I knew, even some of their later stuff was pretty decent. Jools Holland gets a lot of stick but he sure knows how to tickle those ivories!
Weird way of writing. Just hand over the lyrics and say off you go to Tilbrook. Still, it worked. Difford seems like a bit of a cock but he is interesting. I cannot believe how youthful their voices sound.
Dull and plodding. This is a tune, note how the distinction between band and audience has been deconstructed in a spirit of solidarity:
