Nile Ranger given a 12 month conditional discharge after being convicted of two counts of assault.

The lad is a waste of space.

PS. You're on a bit of a bit of a charge aren't you? Three articles in a day. That's almost as many as many as you've posted in all your time on not606.

Just read the news article, apparently CCTV footage shows him out at 2am in Newcastle city centre when a group of lads start on him, yelling racist abuse and swinging their fists. He punches two of them in self defence and runs off, the police (!) go after Ranger to arrest him and he pushes two officers over, causing "minor injuries". He's been done for assaulting the officers. I'm no fan of his, but it certainly suggests in the BBC article it was not his fault to a large extent.

Was this before or after he was banned from the town centre?

Surely you have grounds to terminate his contract?

I seem to recall that he has a few convictions in recent times. Doesn't seem to be involved at all in the first-team picture and just seems to be a complete watse of Newcastle's resources.

If it were anyone else I may have a degree of sympathy with this current charge. He was set upon by a few lads, racially abused and simply acted in self defence by all accounts. The assault charges on the lads were dropped with the judge believing his account of events. Now many would say "that still doesn't explain him pushing the coppers" but in the heat of the moment that can happen especially when you feel you've been wronged.

The problem with sympathy in this case is Nile Ranger. I find it very very difficult to have any sympathy for him even in these kinds of circumstances. He was of course on the pop again at the time aswell.

I can not understand why we haven't sacked him. We have enough on him now to discard him without any financial penalty. Very silly lad who has wasted his shot at the big time. Instead he has favoured playing the plastic gangster, which is just embarrassing and pathetic.

It was SSN sorry dont know if it was before he was banned from city centre. All I know is I'm fed up with the lad and would love to see us get rid of him. He doesnt seem to learn from his mistakes.

Saw him in his first game for us and thought he looked quite good, getting up above the opposition's defence and heading the ball down for team mates to take a shot. He just seemed to get carried away with the short lived fame.

I thought when he went to play in Sheffield that it would have been a good permanent move for him, it seemed to have distanced him from his hangers-on and the Newcastle nightlife. Good for all involved really, because if this goes on he's going to be in prison within a year of leaving football. People do turn their lives around, I just don't think he's going to do that here.

As far as this incident goes I'm completely on Ranger's side. Anyone giving out racist abuse deserves a kicking. The police officers weren't abusing him but in situations like that it's easy to get panicked and carried away, and neither of the officers really got hurt anyway.

Not saying that he isn't a dickhead, though...

Am l right in thinking that since this incident he has been involved in some sort of anti-social behaviour in London, something about criminal damage. So whilst l feel he had a right to defend himself when attacked, he just does not seem to be getting the message.
Why on earth does he not see what he is in danger of throwing away?
So many young people work so hard to try to have a chance at attaining what Ranger has been given, sadly most do not have sufficient talent to make it through, he does, but seems unmotivated, perhaps stacking shelves in the local supermarket for minimum wage would wake the stupid prat up?

Find it hard to feel sorry for him, the guy is a class A prick. Okay he may have been racially abused but to then go push 2 police officers is stupid beyond belief. Why not just go quietly and calmly and explain your side of the story, let the video evidence do your talking for you and walk away looking a little better than you did before.

Instead he tries to act the big man and gets himself arrested....AGAIN. Like Geordie in the Fen say's he's been arrested since this charade but he will probably get off that charge with a slap on the wrist as well.

Think the London criminal damage case was after this incident so further court case to follow.

When you've been in a fight it's not always easy to just settle down and let the police restrain you. The mentality needed to fight, particularly when you're defending yourself as Ranger was, is not something you can just turn on or off.
