Wouldnt want us paying 18million for anyone at the moment - but as has been said above a figure of around 10million would be right. How could we turn darren bent down - he is a proven PL striker with a great strike rate in recent seasons.
Would rather see us spend the money on Jordan Rhodes (Huddersfield, now Blackburn), Ross Barkley (Everton), or even our own prodigal son Raheem Sterling (Liverpool).
Look what Liverpool did with Shelvey, £1.7m and now hes probably worth 10 times that. Buy young players, bring them and and sell them for a massive profit. Our current plan is to buy players wanting one last pay day who have no sell on value and are on massive wages.
Yes, indeed, Robin van Persie didn't require much gelling time after he arrived at Man Utd from Arsenal, and for that matter the same goes for a whole bunch of less well known strikers who also made pre-season club moves.
Yes, QPR are like the "one last big fat pay cheque" café. Ross Barkley, who has impressed me, is a real high energy player, who is currently out on loan at Sheff Wed, I imagine, likely showing up our own Jay Bothroyd.
This Man Utd prodigy, a ringer for Wayne Rooney, might soon be going on the cheap? please log in to view this image Manchester United midfielder Ryan Tunnicliffe has been charged with drink-driving after a car collided with a van in Greater Manchester. We're always a sucker for lost causes. Perhaps come January he could learn the ropes from our Joey? please log in to view this image
Thought DB was a proven prem striker...wouldnt want to pay over 10mill for him, but he'd gaurantee us @20 goals a season.. No rush though..Defoe is coming isnt he...??!!
Never rated Bent at International level......but, surely he's the type of striker everyone keeps saying we need up front? 20 goals a season, virtually guaranteed, in the Premier League is as rare as rocking horse ****e!! Having said that, I do understand the arguments about injury and age.....we are in a bit of a pickle aren't we? Spend to stay up? On virtually anyone we think could save us?
20 goals a season????? In terms of league goals this is a feat he has only managed twice in his career, 2009/2010 24 goals for sunderland and 2004/2005 20 goals for Ipswich. So just for the record he has scored 20 goals a season in the premier league once - Hardly a guarantee is it. 18 Million or even 24 million!!! Hilarious suggestion, i think the only thing we would spend 24 million on would allow 35,000 people to sit in it. Don't get me wrong he's a good player and a good goal scorer but IMO has always been over priced. £55 million has been spent on Darren over the course of his career, he must love a signing on fee. I don't think we need to add to this total unless he's bargain basement cos at 28 we would be the last club to spend bucks on him and we would get **** all back.
Spending big money on transfer fees is not the way QPR have been doing business so this is a non-starter IMO. However, come January: a) Will we still need a new striker? b) Will Cisse dramatically return to form? c) Will we knocking enough in from midfield to make it irrelevant?
Under a different manager and playing a different style Also, Hendo was something like £16M + potential clauses. Although it's still a bit high, he's worth £10M or so. He'll come good though. Carroll... well...
It doesnt matter which manager paid the £51m plus add on's (apologies for saying £55m). It wasn't the Manager's personal money, it was the club's. Your club has a history of paying too much money for average players. To claim you won't go for Bent as he would be "too much money" is not reasonable when your owners have already done that recently.
