He was fabulous tonight - things started to happen the moment he came on.

Always available, took up some great positions, and a couple of tremendous, memorable passes.

No nerves, no hesitation, no fear of trying something different.

Hope this in the first of many, many, caps.

He may be a Liverpool player now, but in our hearts, he'll always be ours.

By coincidence Jonjo had a big part in last nights episode of the Being Liverpool documentary. Came across well if just a little inarticulate. Could be a big season for him.

    Agree with the sentiments Tewkes...

Anyone know if we included a clause for England recognition in the deal for Shelvey or Jenkinson...?

Such a shame that we didn't have the current administration for the Shelvey sale, while I understand completely what Murray did, Southampton got £12m for Oxlade-Chamberlain. We could have got at least £6-8m for shelvey.

I think Ballotelli sums it up best when it comes to CAFC and selling youngsters.

Would it have mattered if we had? All the money we were receiving was disappearing into a black hole anyway.

No it was rhetorical, it was more a case of we definately haven't done well in the transfer market since curbs left.

Have we ever managed to sell well? Could be an interesting thread.

Depends what well is? Financial or progressional?

Selling JJ & Jenks got us the league one title. Well spent funds, to a great result.

Did we get as much money as we could have/should have. No

Sold by necessity, well worked in a bad circumstance

Good points! Jenkinson I think was a decent deal- £1million for a right back that had hardly feature. A few if the under 18 fans could see his potential, but the price was good for someone who had less than 20 league games IMO.

Shelvey- well I think most could see he was something special (bar the ones that started booing him). £1.7 for someone who had controlled games at championship and then league one level, plus captaining England at every youth stage was a kick in the teeth.

Murray's hands might have been tied, but you have to feel he could have got a better deal. When soton were forced to sell before their financial woes, they were getting money for players like mcgoldrick that wasn't far off of hat Liverpool paid.

SuperC- At the tome we sold Shelvey we were heading south faster than Felix Baumgartner, so if we'd got a better deal(which we should have) it would only have delayed hitting the rocks at speed, or being forced to sell up which is what of course happened.

I agree, FHB. But I think by that point Murray was resigned to selling up. I just think that other clubs, in worse positions than us, got better money for players not as good.

But I think Murray panicked. I don't think he took the first offer for JJ. I too also believe that this was the move jonjo wanted, and as he did right by us, we did right by him. Just a bit frustrating, as he's not even 21 and he is starting to blossom in the premiership and Europe. Bigger sell on's would have been better.

Agree Jonjo did the right thing in signing an extended contract which put us in a good negotiating position. What enraged me was Parky's refusal to use him even as a substitute during our promotion push. Also prior to this he had played him out of position.
