I hate to put a bit of a downer on last saturday. I had an immensely miserable day (thank you SYP) and it was a cracking result and atmosphere from our end. However to those four or five gentlemen who were chanting 'Sing your Jimmy Savile Song' and 'Jimmy Savile, he's a *****, he's a *****' how do I put this...? I'm truly ashamed to be associated with you. There is no place for that whatsoever in my view. It was thankfully limited to four blokes on one row who obviously knew each other and then one bloke on the row behind who didn't know them.

Me and my mates and I'm pretty sure all the other people around wanted to say something and tell them to shut their ignorant little mouths. But of course none of us did. It was out of social awkwardness and perhaps cowardice to some degree and I regret not saying anything. Banter is fine, but as cliched as it sounds a line was crossed.

The only positive was that it came from only 4 or 5 people out of 2500 and thus a tiny minority, but that doesn't excuse it.

So I suppose this is an open apology to all Jimmy Savile fans and the Hull City fans who had to hear it, unfortunately this isn't coming from the right person.

    #ironyalert.

Now then, now then, to you young man.

Mr robingram02, this is of course mostly a cut and paste from a thread you started which provoked some interesting debate, no offence was meant towards you personally and I hope none is taken.

    That is all.

I really dont either. What's Jimmy Savile got to do with Wednesday?

Speaking for myself, if this story had come out before we played TWS this season I wouldve defo sung it at Elland Road. He was idolisd in Leeds and it wouldve really fooked them off. What does that make me in your eyes?

What I was wondering was, would such behaviour cause "social awkwardness"

Causing social awkwardness at football matches is wrong and should be opposed at every opportunity.

What would be socially awkward about chanting "Jimmy Savile is a *****"?

I really am confused about this.

He was hated by a lot of people in Leeds because news of his bent bastardishness spread in the city, from his early days running dancehalls like Genghis Khan to his abuses of trust at the Leeds General Infirmary to his alleged racism, sexism and general rudeness.

Probably idolized more than anyone by his TV demographic from Jim'll Fix It and Top Of The Pops.

Yeah, that really shone through in the week of his death in the workplaces and indeed his funeral when you literally couldnt move on the streets as the parade passed by and everyone to a man stopped and burst into spontaneous applause.

For the record, I've lived in Leeds since 1999. You werent to know that.

So the scarf waving isn't just a piss take that they do to wind other fans up in the stands!

I wouldn't feel too bad about it if I were you - changing history and glossing over the parts that don't suit the agenda are in a TWS fan's genes.

Not sure that's true. I've worked in Leeds since the mid 80's and Jimmy Saville was generally regarded as a pervert by everyone I met.

In fact when he was "lying in State" at the Queens hotel (about 200 yards from our offices) I asked some of the girls if they were going to go down to see him at lunchtime (somewhat tongue in cheek) - they laughed in my face and said "**** him, good riddance". "Dirty Old Bastard"

Their only concern was that it made their bus late.

The only people who championed him were the BBC who did their best to drum up support for him. They kept telling us all we loved him, but I've never met anyone who did.
