    Sunday October 21st - KO 1.30pm

    The Stadium Of Light

    Match Info courtesy of www.nufc.com

Newcastle return to first team action on Sunday week (October 21st) when they make the short trip to the badlands of wearside. Kickoff is at 1.30pm, live on Sky.

The 147th Tyne-wear derby is a complete sellout.

Bookings for the club's bus transport can now be made in person at the SJP box office and by phone (0844 372 1892). Note that there's no online purchase option.

Buses will leave Barrack Road at 11am, turnstiles will be open from 11.30am and kickoff is at 1.30pm.

Note that NUFC are charging £5 per seat this season (no booking fee). The mackems have made it known that their buses to and from SJP in April will remain free of charge.

Just to confirm that Newcastle fans will now be housed in the upper sections of the North Stand - the opposite end of the ground to the one we've occupied previously.

However, those traveling by Metro will continue to arrive and depart from St.Peters station. Extra services leave Central at 12.16 and 12.23 but with fewer fans expected to use the buses, expect delays and overcrowding.

A police escort from St.Peters to the North Stand will be provided and the planned route will see fans walk across a cordoned off section of the main car park (between the river and West Stand) to gain access to the turnstiles.

Anyone using their own transport should be aware that they'll be unable to access the away turnstiles if they approach from the east side of the ground.

Anecdotal evidence from Liverpool and Wigan's visits to the dark place this season suggests that the North Stand has inferior access and movement compared to the other end of the ground.

On the basis that this is the first derby with these new arrangements, it may be worth foregoing that extra pint and going earlier or even biting the bullet and taking the bus to avoid the inevitable teething troubles.

PS: Additional details published by NUFC:

Fans will have access to the bars on levels one and three of the North Stand. The level one bar will serve alcohol before kick-off, at half-time and after the match has ended, while supporters are held back for a short time.

The level three bar will serve soft drinks and snacks before half-time and at half-time but will serve alcohol only after full-time.
Newcastle fans will be asked to wait in the stadium for a short while after the final whistle and will have access to the bars and toilets while they do so. This is to allow police to ensure there is a safe path back to the coaches and Metro trains for fans when they leave the stadium.

The nominal £5 charge is to counter logistical problems encountered last season, where large numbers of fans booked places on the coaches but did not then take advantage of the travel offer.

Supporters are encouraged to use the coaches to travel the game as it assists local police to manage the arrival and departure of Newcastle fans attending the game.

The Club will still be paying the full cost of the coaches, however all monies raised by the Club by levying this charge will be paid to a chosen Newcastle United charity.

Squad: Ryan Taylor, Dan Gosling and Haris Vuckic will definitely miss out, but there's optimism that Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini and Tim Krul could return - the latter two aided by not receiving international callups this time round.

    Betting Picks
    SAFC to win 2-1 - 8/1
    NUFC to win 2-1- 9/1
    2-2 draw- 12/1
    Toon to win 5/1 - 300/1

Im thinking Pards just has to go for broke here and play 4-3-3. Sod what happened in Africa, we need to be positive, and above all united.
I would play Shola from the bench though.

We need the heart of our defence back. Krul, Colo and Saylor are all massive players for us at this time. Our best keeper, our captain and a player who will truly understand what this game means, Shola and Harps obviously do but I would rather they are both on the bench for this one.

I don't think we need to risk anything really. They lack attacking threat, and they want us to attack them so they can hit us on the break.

I say stick with the 4-4-2, as a major change for a derby could work against us.

If the game is gonna be **** then I think that suits us, because we're a lot harder to defend against in **** games, than Sunderland are. All we need is a couple of center backs that are aware and ready.

We often take the piss out of Mackems for living in their own ****...

And that's why it's so imperative Ameobi plays at least some part in this fixture... <ok>

Here's a question, if we were definitely going to take 4 points from Sunderland this season, would you rather win away and draw at home, or vice versa?

So do we, when Coloccini and Taylor are playing at their best, though have to admit this scenario is very unlikely next Sunday, bearing in mind they both missed the Bordeaux and Man Utd games.

Wasn't that after Sunderland's best defensive start to a Premier League season.
