Excellent news! Hopefully this will finally shut up those who hated the new management for not magically creating a stadium out of thin air. As long as the capacity is increased to 60k minimum, with perhaps options for further expansion. I think it could be done if we kept the Kop and redesigned the other stands. I'm not an architect though so I don't know how realistic that is.
Rumour is another 15,000 with around half of that being "VIP" seating. I assume it would mean another tier on main stand and anfield road.
The expansion will include corporate seating. There were some images going around before showing how this is likely to look. I think the corners are likely to be filled with seats. So the stands will go all the way around. The only bit I do not like is that houses will be compulsory purchased for demolishing. I do not think this is fair. Especially when there is a housing crisis in this country. I would like to see FSG invest money towards building new houses on Stanley Park where the stadium would have stood. One for every demolished house, plus a few extra. Unless of course they have already agreed a heavy financial package with the city council.

This excites me. If done properly this could be a massive step forward for the club. It would go a long way to make us competitive in a far more sustainable manner. Looking forward to it.
100% agree about compulsory purchase. If its necessary (which it probably will be) I hope the club agrees a fair price with residents and commits to improving the local area and transport facilities. Exciting times but I will reserve judgement until I've seen the plans
I'm in no way, shape or form in the building industry, but how hard would it be just to add an extra tier to the Main Stand? Leave the Kop and Anfield road ends as it is and have two double tier stands on either side?
Civil Engineer here, its not too difficult. Depends a lot on how much seating and where. Also how they are developing it exactly, Anfield is old and probably needs some structural reinforcements to cope with; the weight of a new stand, toilets, stairwells, crowds, exits etc etc. Its also the health and safety sides of things that require a certain area for a set expansion. A lot of work would have gone into it, so I'm sure they have thought everything through.
I'm mixed on this. We desperately need to increase capacity for games but expanding Anfield provides limitations. It can only be increased to around 60k and there will be little room for further developments in the future, that leaves us almost 19k behind Old Trafford still too (361k seats per league season, at £35 a seat (arguments sake) thats just over £12.5m a season. Not including cup games!
For a top premier league club 12 million is nothing. Having a big stadium is not just about the money though. Having a big stadium gives the impression of being a big club, which in turn helps attract the big players. I think we should go as big as we can though, its unlikely we'll see any more redevelopment after this within our lifetimes.
Would rather a new purpose built stadium but NESV can't afford that. Those clowns Parry nd Moores shafted Liverpool
