Bugger that. Webber's still got a mathematical shot at the title, and that'll be good enough reason for him to fight for it.
And you all said the same thing last year at Silverstone... I did warn you last year that RBR would not want to risk that sort of situation and really would just want to make sure 1 driver gets all the points over the other to maximise the chance of winning the WDC again. Not trying to say I'm always right...but in the end who was correct that time? The gap is too big for Mark to get the WDC against Alonso let alone Seb in equal machinery, unless Seb get's 2 DNF's on the trott. He will have to fall in line no matter how well he does in these last 5 GP's.
If RBR let their drivers fight, they would be mental. The quicker they can get Webber behind Vettel tomorrow, the better.
Vettel was a million miles ahead at the time, we all knew it wouldn't make a difference. People accuse Webber of not being a team player because of that, and that he even thought team orders was logical after Germany 2010, but I would have told Horner to go shove it up his ass, and Webber's quote was actually that it was logical for the faster car to be let through (which he wasn't). But let's face it, if a team principal can't trust his two drivers to race cleanly and fairly, what does that reflect?
It's the same plan as the last race, go, pull away, sort the rest as it goes, they win. I just think Mark will not be fighting Seb after the end of the long straight after turn 1 if he has a decent start. He will slot in behind, slipstream Mark, overtake him, gone! Minimal effort and the team remains happy that their highest placed driver is now leading the WDC. It's a team sport and I would like to think Mark is smart enough to know that.
webber will lead most of the race until/unless: - Vettel retires - Vettel is held up - it is near the end of the race
Yes about 77 points at the halfway point separated them at the time with 10 races to go, this time it's 56 points with 5 races to go now and we will likely hear team orders being issued again now regardless what Webber thinks should happen. I'm just pointing out if RBR are willing to use team orders with a 77 point gap with 10 races to go, what makes you think RBR wont do it with a 56 point gap with 5 races to go? If anything Seb had less of a gap against Webber in 2011 considering the amount of races that were left than the situation now!
Are you ****ing kidding me? Its not like Bernie wasn't a twat already and now he does this? I'm not at home so I can't watch it, but its been on speed till now. I guess I'll have to check and see what the coverage is like. If its really on NBC then yea I guess no more watching for me, I can't stand them, especially after botching the Olympics coverage so bad. In regards to Vettel, it isn't surprising at all to see that he is all pissed about losing pole, and he should be, cause its his own fault that he messed up! I don't mind that he is mad, I think that shows he's human cause he realizes he made a mistake, I just don't want to see the old Vettel return and have him throw a temper tantrum like he is some toddler. Thats what gets old.
Agreed, I see no reason why he shouldn't stay in the fight if he has a reasonable shot at the title. Sebs a big boy, he shouldn't need any team orders to win, and I hope they don't come into place, because I cant stand it when it happens, although its usually hard to blame the driver as it seems those decisions come from the higher-ups in the teams.
Q: Sebastian, you look a bit annoyed… Sebastian Vettel: Ha, is my face such an open book? (laughs) No, there is not the slightest trace of annoyance. It was probably a bit of misunderstanding on the team radio. I thought that Felipe (Massa) was pitting but I don’t believe that you can blame my lap time on Felipe or traffic in the last sector. It’s true, it was not an ideal situation but if someone has to take the blame then it is me because I think that pole position was within reach today. I probably lost it in the second sector - and that’s why it didn’t work out. Of course I am not entirely happy with that last lap, but it is going to be a long race with many uncertainties so everything is still possible. Q: But is it not up to the team to tell you when you’re running in traffic? SV: Well, we did talk about it on the out-lap, but my impression was that Felipe would pit - and he didn’t. I think that I misunderstood (race engineer) Rocky, but it’s no big deal. For sure Felipe did nothing wrong. I think lately we have had too many discussions about who was in the way of whom, so I want to make it clear that it was my mistake. I have to do it better next time. Q: So the good news is that you are starting from the front row… SV: …of course the aim was pole position, but qualifying is over so there’s no need to cry over spilt milk. Now we have to concentrate on tomorrow. The distance to the first corner is not too long and there are many straights, so there is room for position improvement. Q: Fernando Alonso is right behind you, but he has just said that be believes he will be behind Kimi Raikkonen after the first corner. What do you expect from the start? SV: Right now, nothing. (laughs) This evening we will try to find some improvements and try to understand where we lost out and then tomorrow we will concentrate on the start. Maybe I am seeing it a bit simplistically as I do not try to look into the future. One step at a time is my motto - and it has always served me well. If start to tell myself the things that might go wrong, then they might happen. Isn’t that what is called a self-fulfilling prophecy? I have never been into that. Q: Who is the hot candidate for the win? SV: Well, I think that the grid gives a good picture of who could win and finish on the podium. I think that McLaren was doing pretty well, even if Jenson (Button) didn’t make it into Q3, but then you never know. Everything should be possible with the right strategy. Q: What will be key for the race? SV: First of all to find the key. (laughs) We have had a good weekend so far without any major problems, but we are not entirely sure about the strategy and what to expect from the tyres. The situation can immediately change when the sun comes out and the track temperature goes up, so you cannot take anything for granted. So we will take it from when the lights go out tomorrow. It’s true that the first corner is important, but there is definitely more than one corner. Q: Your team mate Mark Webber is on pole position. Do you expect him to help you out, or will it be an all-out fight with him? SV: Both of us have to race trying to maximize our result and go from there. The important thing is that I am ready to attack - and eventually to win.
De la Rosa, how disrespectful! No helmet for you!! Alonso deserves title more than Vettel says De la Rosa http://totalf1.com/full_story/view/432000/Alonso_deserves_title_more_than_Vettel_says_De_la_Rosa/ I really hope Seb clinches his third title in a row, i wonder though if some will ever respect his amazing achievements.
Webber NEVER takes one for the team, he's too egocentric, remember Silverstone? http://totalf1.com/full_story/view/432000/Alonso_deserves_title_more_than_Vettel_says_De_la_Rosa/ Pedro de la Rosa explains why he's in the HRT: "You usually get what you deserve in sport"
Indeed, but I would guess RBR would rather irritate Mark than Seb since one is a double world champion who is on the brink of becoming the youngest triple WDC in F1 history that will make tons of $$$$ and with a clause for 2014 with certain "expectations" (likely 1 WDC at least between 2012-2014). The other is 34 years old, 60 points behind Alonso this season and will likely retire before 2014. I just don't see a downside with RBR now favoring Seb over Mark to almost the degree Alonso gets at Ferrari. If Seb misses out on the WDC by 3-4 points I think I know who Seb will blame for not getting it if Mark doesn't yield like Massa always has to do.
I'll try and sound as polite as possible here, Miggins for god's sake will you shut the hell up about Webber? I don't say this as a fan of Webber, I say it because it's annoying as all hell! Been tolerant up to this point in trying to ignore it but seriously mate, you need to get over it.
I slept through qualifying... but what an amazing result! A shame that Hamilton got ahead in the end, as the clean side is supposed to be a big advantage. Hopefully that means Hamilton will get past Vettel at the start.
Did nothing last year and the distance to the first corner is too short for an advantage, Seb will also have the inside line while Lewis wont.
