Hate to bring up a painful memory but none of us want to go through what happened last season again. To comfortably survive, we're going to need 40-42 points this season. Some may say we'll need less, but we really don't want to be cutting it fine again.

So far after 7 games we have two; that means we must get 40 or so from our remaining 31 games. Breaking that down further, it translates as 5 points from every four games i.e. a win, two draws and only one defeat every four games. If we lose a second in four, we must WIN another game!

It's obvious from that that we can't afford to lose many more than 8 more games or so this season, given that the remaining 23 games would give us an average of 8 wins and 15 draws
    to aggregate 40 points.

My main point here is that considering we're likely to lose games against the top 6 it doesn't leave us much room for error against teams midtable and below. Even at this early stage we're certainly up against it, and have to start picking up serious points after the international break.

But that's assuming we won't go on a small run of 2 or 3 wins in a row. If we do that and get 9 points from 3 games, it makes everything look alot more rosy. Looks ominous when you say we need a win, 2 draws and a loss from every 4, 2 wins out of 4 and that's already over the 5 point 'threshold'

I would welcome a small run of one win in a row at the moment!
I see what you're saying, but there would have to be an enormous pick up in form to go on any sort of a run in the near future...

Beat Everton, Reading and Soton and we are in the top half of the table. Good night!

I fully back Hughes and the pre-season optimism. 1.5 points per game is the requirement.

Any less and the doubters are right.

It does need to start now though...

    31 games left.
isn't it a bit early to calculate points per game?
Main thing is to GET points.
Even if we continue as we are I do not think that Hughes will be sacked before Christmas.
I also do not think TF would empoy Harry.

Surely that is ignoring what other clubs do though, by definition, they've all done better than us so far!!
