No, I didn't mean that all those people would amount to 40,000 at all. That was purely me being frustrated with never being able to go at the last minute. If you were in my position you'd understand a lot easier.
Why can't you go at the last minute? There have been tickets available up to kick off for nearly all games last season and this.
Some people don't want to risk not getting a ticket ... I'd rather phone up in advance and be sure of a seat rather than roll up 5mins prior with a smaller chance
Am I missing something here? You are a Saints fan right? You have an opportunity to watch your team at home and you live nearby, but you only decide "20 minutes" before 3pm whether you are going or not? And then... you are thinking that its "taking a chance" whether you can get in or not, despite an avalanche of information these days available to make a judgement on the attraction of the opposition and a simply phone call on the morning to the box office asking how many tickets are left? Seriously, have you ever "turned up" and not been able to get in?
It's the job I do. I have to cover for people. Basically, you get worn down after trying several times. Yes, of course I've been able to get in. But not anything like as much as I've wanted to.
I've definitely slipped into a parallel universe where we are suddenly Man Utd and tickets are like gold dust.
On a purely selfish note, if there was more spare capacity, I could go at the drop of a hat. It would be nice. I used to be able to do that as a kid when you could roll up at the turnstile and place your 5/- or 7/6d over. Mind you, after a while I was hooked.
Sorry mush, but your situation is YOUR situation. Its not the fault of the club or the ticketing or the size of the stadium, its your very VERY specific situation. I'd be gobsmacked if there are more than a dozen others in the same boat as you. Have you thought about getting a different job?
I totally agree myself and my two sons were at pretty much all the games through our demise and trip to the edge of oblivion and the club start a loyalty scheme upon our return to the big time. Ironically now we cant attend as many games as prices have jacked up as expected. The only downside of the 'loyalty points' scheme is they did'nt start it three or four seasons ago when loyalty was required not much foresight from Nicola there.Personally i think any stadium extension should take it up to around 38 to 40,000 max as i feel any thing exceeding this is unrealistic and in any case lets just concentrate on getting a foothold in the division first that is the big task in hand.
The only thing I'm saying on ticketing is I wanted two seats together for Spurs, looked online yesterday and nothing. Not a chance. Single seats, but not even one behind the other.
You have to keep looking in different places, refreshing the page etc. An occasionally if you're lucky something pops up. Had the same problem for the Villa game.
I've missed roughly 7-10 games in the last 8 years. Really not a lot. Including cup matches, league matches, the lot. But because I was only young I never had an account for the tickets so the loyalty thing basically wipes the skate for everything that I have done over the years...
I'm with TSS, I don't live locally but I'm from the area and when I'm visiting the folks or whatever I'd like the chance to go to a match, but because I'm not a season ticket holder it's a lottery. And there are undoubtedly a lot of people who would go more often but can't be bothered with the hassle of booking weeks in advance. I'm amazed at how many people come up with crazy reasons like "more casual fans" to justify keeping the capacity down. It is a no-brainer to expand, if you have any faith in the club at all.
Ok heres an analogy that maybe explains it from the clubs perspective. You are the guys addicted to the cigarettes. Once you're hooked you'll pay £10 a packet. It's the 13 year olds that the club are trying to convince its cool to smoke Saints cigarettes to get them hooked for life. Give them a few free packs and get them addicted. Does that make sense (and no I haven't been smoking anything!).
Not complaining about the cost of tickets i know how the real world works it just amuses me that they come up with a loyalty scheme when there's no need for one.The stadium will now be full of plastic Utd,Liverpool or Chelsea fans who are now suddenly interested a visit st marys stadium. My sons who are in their late teens have been attending games for over ten seasons and some pretty dire ones amongst them i might add ,will maybe be unable to see the games they have been watching and waiting for over the last few years.Sadly loyalty is a word in the dictionary and nothing more ,but thats business for you. That is why i am in favour of another 6 to 8 thousand seats giving a bit more of chance for fans to get a seat when needed. The only hope is that our new wave of support sticks should we fail on the pitch i hate seeing all those empty seats.
PO10 - exactly my earlier point! I was 10yo when I went to the Dell to see my then hero's - Bobby Charlton, George Best etc etc and saw Saints beat them 2-0 thanks to the legend, Ron Davies. From then on I was bitten and became "addicted" to smoking Saints Get the kids in on cheap packages and grow the fan base Look around the main Kingsland Stand at the average age of the supporters......we need new young fans to secure the future
It's true I went when I was 14 and that was it! 40 odd years later amd the craving is as bad as ever!
