Park accused of seeking QPR 'pay-day' ESPN staff Former QPR midfielder Lee Cook has unleashed a scathing attack on the club's high profile players, including captain Ji-Sung Park, claiming some of them are just at Loftus Road 'for a pay-day'. Park joined QPR from Manchester United in the summer alongside Jose Bosingwa, Fabio da Silva and a number of other experienced players as Mark Hughes looked to bolster his side. But with just two points from the opening seven games, QPR's big names have come under criticism for failing to fire. Cook believes the poor results can be put down to an attitude problem, saying that the work ethic of some players is not up to standard. "Every time I saw Park at United, he was a workhorse," Cook said."For me, he doesn't seem to be working as hard as he did there. "People I know think a few of them are there for a pay-day. At halfway through the season, you will be able to tell whether this is true or not." Cook is currently plying his trade at Leyton Orient having been released from QPR in the summer and he believes the club's shortcomings will soon result in a managerial change. "I don't think Tony Fernandes will much about. When it was Neil Warnock's time to go it was 'see you later' - he didn't hold back," he said. "Just because it's Mark Hughes and a big name, it means nothing. "If the next seven games are like the first seven, then the club would have four points and nobody has lasted that. Harry Redknapp would be a great man to get the job. When a manager like that is available, then I can't see him [Fernandes] saying no." Park At QPR For A Pay Day? October 11, 2012 11 Comments Plenty of reds were sad to see Ji-Sung Park leave the club this summer because of his hard-working nature. Whilst he was never the most talented player, he had a brilliant attitude and gave his best in every game. He had a knack of performing and scoring in the big games too. Park is now the captain at the QPR, who are having a terrible season under Mark Hughes, and former QPR midfielder, Lee Cook, has blamed Park. âEvery time I saw Park at United, he was a workhorse,â he said. âFor me, he doesnât seem to be working as hard as he did there. People I know think a few of them are there for a pay-day. At halfway through the season, you will be able to tell whether this is true or not.â Itâs interesting to note that Park has covered a total of 33.83 miles for QPR so far this season, more than any other player at the club. There are some players whose attitude to the game you could question, but our Park isnât one of them. Who the **** is Lee Cook anyway?
It’s interesting to note that Park has covered a total of 33.83 miles for QPR so far this season, more than any other player at the club. sounds a lot anyone know the stats for the rest
If they do it would be interesting to compare it to time played as well. As Park is captain I assume he's played every time he's been available, where as Hoillett, SWP, and Mackie (amongst others) may have less pitch time.
Running miles means nothing. It might mean he doesn't have a great football brain and has to make up for it by running loads. Ray Wilkins ran bugger all, but was pure class. Just playing devils advocate, not slating Park. Way to early to write him off etc
Sorry but Barton got slated last season for just covering more ground than any of our others, I bet park would not give his selling on fee to the club
The reason for Park Ji-Sung's slow start at QPR may be... Lee Cook has had an interesting career to say the least. A Southampton YTS who was released at 16 he earned his spurs with Aylesbury United before Watford came calling in a controversial transfer that even saw a lawsuit filed by the Buckinghamshire club. The Glory Hornet boys had a talent on their hands. A tricky winger with a delightful delivery he eventually caught the eye of Queens Park Rangers who were at the time fighting relegation from the Championship. An avid supporter himself he decided he would move on and while at the club he began to impress the Premier League pack. A £2.5 million move to Fulham followed and since then his career has been a litany of injuries and loan spells before settling into a short-term contract with Leyton Orient this summer. Now he has made the claims that certain players at Loftus Road are not carrying their weight; instead only being there for the moneyâ¦his words not mine. The player who came in for particular criticism was Park Ji-Sung. The South Korean was known at Manchester United for his big-game mentality, incredible work-rate and fitness levels but since joining Mark Hughes club that has not been evident for the majority of his stay. Instead he has appeared lethargic and dis-interested at Loftus Road, a consequence of which has been QPRâs faltering start to the season. I myself picked Park out to be their star-man this season. His record with PSV and United spoke for itself yet maybe the demise toward the end of his Old Trafford stay was not merely a consequence of his expected Manchester exit. Perhaps his better days are simply behind him. It was a tired adage that he lacked quality but his work ethic made up for it. His relentless running and team-work being paramount to his success. Now, aged 31, perhaps his advancing years no longer allow his previous style of play. Maybe QPR have been sold deadwood by Sir Alex, who seems to have a canny knowledge of when a playerâs time is up.
Bit harsh to single out players. I hope the good Mr Cook gives the lads some credit if they turn it around.
Perhaps he's putting all his energy and commitment into his captains role and spends more time remonstrating with referees.........(tongue in cheek comment). I hope he comes good as the excitement I shared with many others that a player like this was signing for our beloved r's was unbelievable, unfortunately up to now he's been very average.
No point running around the pitch like a headless chicken wasting energy. This is how football should be played:
