    A Ranger replacement?

    http://www.eatsleepsport.com/Newcastle-United/Toon-join-striker-race-1482785.html

Newcastle are reported to have joined the queue of clubs showing an interest in Burnley striker Charlie Austin.

Austin is starting to attract plenty of interest after firing home 15 goals in 12 games for the Clarets and Magpies boss Alan Pardew, who is on the look out for a new striker, is said to be interested.

The 23-year-old would not come cheap though and Newcastle would have to pay big money to have any chance of convincing the Championship outfit to sell.

Clarets boss Eddie Howe is under no immediate pressure to cash in after selling Jay Rodriguez to Southampton for £7million in the summer, and he would be looking for something similar before letting Austin go.

Aston Villa, Reading, Fulham and West Brom are also said to be keen so Pardew will face a battle to land the player should he pursue a move in January.

Not gonna happen. The fees for lower league players have jumped up ridiculously in recent years, and very rarely does it represent value for money.

Check the 'if you were a manager' thread. CALLED IT! <ok>

I get the feeling if Fletcher and Rhodes are anything to go by Austin will go for around the £10m mark which is rather wasteful considering our current policy.

I think we should buy him purely based on the fact he sounds like he belongs in a 70's cop show. Has he got a mullet and a tash?

Much rather stick with young Adam Campbell than bring in someone like that who is unlikely to be any better.

Good shout! I'd love to see Campbell given more gametime rather than him become another Chopra (left too late).
