I was actually going to post about this the other week to see if anyone knew how Deano was doing, because my dad's boss was attending a meeting about his firm fixing a machine for Cranswick piggeries, when Deano walked in trying to sell nuts and bolts!

My dad's boss isn't really a sports fan, but knew who Deano was, and said to him - what are you doing here?!! After Wembley shouldn't you be made for life?

To which Deano said - It's all gone mate, I do this to keep me out the boozer.

My dad's boss said he reeked of alcohol and as he is doing it on commission, he must have drove there, because he would be driving from business to business.

Such a shame - hopefully the crash will be a kick up the backside and make him come to his senses.

If he is a salesman he will need a driving licence surely? So when he's banned he is likely to lose his job as well.

I fear for Deano, I really do.

He obviously needs some serious help.

He's a club legend for all the right reasons and, maybe it's not the clubs responsibility, but I wouldn't stand by and let someone like Deano drift into alcoholic obscurity.

I know from first hand what depression and mental illness does to people. It doesn't matter what your life is like it really can affect anyone. But the only person that can help Deano, is Deano.

Whilst he is a club legend, is he the right role model for our youth players?

I get what your saying but, are people who have never played at the highest level a good role model??

Yes he needs his head sorting out but been on a training pitch would be the best thing for him. If he was willing to do a sales job, he's not going to turn down assistant coach.

I'm sure it would be his dream job but he is obviously a risky employee

Nick spoke to him, but didn't think he could take the risk.

I do agree he maybe too volatile but we certainly need something extra in our youth set up to get them to make the step up. I dont want to get into the Nick debate but Brucey certainly has the authority and experience to get hold of Deano and keep him reined in.

Is Ash interested in coaching OLM? In the youth set up i mean? As long as they dont think they will get massive salaries, it seems ideal toget them involved.

It would be great publicity for the club too.

Sad to keep reading these stories about Deano. Maybe that selling job was inappropriate for him given that everybody knows who he is. I agree he could do with a job in football, maybe he can get his coaching badges and go on from there. It's a shame the local radio can't give him a spot, sooner listen to him than Peter Swan and he's a guy who has actually played at the top level.

Not that I'm aware, though I don't remember ever having a conversation with him about it. I think he's quite happy with his watch business, I understand it's doing rather well.

I know a few of his mates that play for Blackies in the Hull and District Veterans League are trying to get him to play for them, but I don't think he was all that keen. He wouldn't be the first though, Justin Whittle has played for South Cave Vet's and Deano is playing for Walkington Vet's at the moment.

    'Community Ambassador'?

I don't know what that means, but it sounds like the sort of role Deano should have at the club.

Hope things turn out ok for him and that goal was certainly a cracker, shades of one Matt Le Tissier and Gazza scored in their time.

Windass seems to be heading the same way as Paul Gascoigne only this time we can all see it happening.
I know he's an adult and ultimately it's up to him to sort his life out, but it's a real shame the club can't do something for such a popular ex player who will always have a place in our history.

It sounds like he needs to be somewhere like The Priory.

He will always have a place in our history but if he comes back, his reputation may become tainted depending on his actions

A lot of judge and jury types have posted some deeply hateful and bitter things on the HDM website about this.
