Think the lads have been a bit harsh on you, we sometimes get used to other fans coming on here to have a go. You're not one of those fans. Not being a Liverpool fan you are not going to get the way we worship Kenny.
The reason why Gooners can't get to grips with the reasons why we hold Kenny in such high esteem is because they don't have anyone worthy of being held in such high esteem. Every Arsenal ''legend'' has blotted their copybook in some shape or form with the exception of Ray Kennedy of course, but He did 100 times more with Liverpool than he did with Arsenal. Arsenal ''Legends'' that blotted their copybook. George Graham-Bungs. Tony Adams Alcoholic ex crinimal. Frank Mclintock Bungs. Paul Merson-Alcoholic Druggie. Thierry Henry-Cheating French Bastard.
KPR Am I still allowed to like Bergkamp then? And you forgot about Freddie 'Dye my hair pink' Ljundberg.
Theres nothing wrong with Bergkamp or Freddie Ljungberg. The only flaw Bergkamp had was when he was in Italy, the Italians nicknamed him ''Denise'' because they said ''he played like a girl''.You forgot to mention Ray the ''Romford Pele'' Parlour and Ian Wright, two legends.
I remember seeing an interview with an ex-ref (David Ellery, I think) and he said that he was invited to a dinner and on the floor plan it said he was sitting next to Fergie. The week before he reffed a utd match and made some questionable decisions against Man Utd. As he sat down at the table he was bricking it expecting a grilling from fergie. Fergie asked him why he was so tense and he said about the week before and fergie laughed it off and told him that he had as good as forgotten all about it. he said that that was just the game
Bozz. Did you ever hear about the rows Hansen and Lawrenson used to have with Kenny on the pitch when Kenny was player manager. They used to have huge barneys.Jocky and Lawro used to say to each other ''Oh ****,He's the manager at the end of the game,He's going to go through us for sport''.They used to be bricking themselves when attempting to go up to apologise, but Kenny used to say ''All forgotten no need to apologise''.
It's good to know that the greats of the game can keep things in perspective. But then what does that say about us having massive arguments and slanging matches about it on an internet forum?!?
Swarbs. The article was written about Kenny getting deserved recognition and RVF is trying to make out we are claiming that we Kenny is God-like and has found a cure for cancer. That can be further from the truth. We are just acknowledging his achievements and feel that they do indeed need to be recognised.
I didn't mean this thread, I meant on the forum in general. Some of our arguments last for days, whilst even some of the worst managers for overreacting and whining can often shrug it off just a few hours or a couple of days later. Re: this thread, I completely agree with you guys that Dalglish deserves recognition. But then I can see how someone like RVF, who doesn't have any particular connection with Liverpool, wouldn't get why you think he's so great. Like Molby says, the knighthood is more about recognising his efforts after Hillsborough (and also Heysel to a lesser extent), and if you aren't fully aware of the scale of his efforts you just won't get why Liverpool fans respect him so much. I've seen similar situations with some Arsenal fans and Wenger (although obviously not directly comparable). If you don't realise quite how much he revolutionised football nutrition and coaching in the UK, you wouldn't get why so many Arsenal fans still support him and respect him even after the last six years.
Swarbs. I completely agree. Although the recognition does take into account the amount of selfless work he did for the Hillsborough families, and it was them that lobbyed for him to receive such recognition. There is also his services to football too in the last 40 years. Including, being the only player manager to win the League and Cup double,3 time European Cup winner,Footballer of the year(twice),PFA Player of the year. He's been called,''The Prince of Parkhead'' ''The King of the KOP'',''The Emporer of Ewood''. This is no dig at Man United, but if Beckham,a squeaky voiced skirt wearing halfwit thats married to a Spice Girl gets one before Kenny then somethings wrong.
Of course you didn't. You simply spoke up on the issues of religion and football, that we were treating a football manager like a God, which was clearly a slight exaggeration on your part. That shouldn't be interpreted as argumentative any more than the responses. Just because there's no smileys doesn't mean everybody's angry. Experience is a wonderful thing. Get into enough net debates and flame wars and eventually you realise the pattern of ever-decreasing circles, hair-splitting, sidetracking, pedantry and misinterpretation. When I was on 606 I'd rarely return to a thread once I'd posted. That way I'd had my say, whomever had an issue with it felt like they had the last word and I didn't have to read their inane reply so didn't get drawn in. I participate a little more here but I've left debates with you as done and dusted. You probably thought your argument had shut me up, huh?
Now this bloody wedding is out of the way; can the Queen take a quick detour to Liverpool and knight Dalglish now.
Absolutely agree. Modern knighthoods are supposed to be based on public service. Whilst Becks has done a decent share of public sevice with his UN work, you cannot argue that he has had a greater direct impact on people's lives than Dalglish did after Hillsborough. Oh no mate. I've only been on here a few months, but I've already learnt that nothing shuts you up
Re Becks and his UN work. The people at the UN setting all of this up and sending Becks to these places are doing all of the real work, his impact is his reputation and fame. Something for kids to aspire to, there are many many more everyday folk putting 10 times the effort as David and getting f'all recognition, these famous nonces, ffs Naomi Campbell was a UN ambassador. Don't get me wrong, Becks fair play to him bring football to places and kids that need it, and fair play for him putting the time in, but lets get it clear, there are thousands of people doing the work for nowt, no knighthoods, in fact it is nice to see Becks give something back after all he has received, so no, no award should be given to these people and instead lets give the knighthoods to the people that volunteer and get fk all and don't have millions in the bank and ara not a world brand name, lets not forget the positive publicity the Beckham brand gets too. Fair play to Becks but he deserves no Knighthood and you know what, I reckon that would be his opinion too. Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger < This guy ia a fn hero and deserves an award Am I right in saying Fergie got the same award as Geldof got for raising millions for starvation, for managing a football club?
Beckham's done a lot of good, but 90% of it was manufactured to fit the image. Kenny never did anything more than give his time to those who needed him. As for Ferguson's award, contributions to the Labour party rather than football where the key factor. To Robin van fiberglass..I don't think he's a god, just a decent human being.
I agree. Becks uses his fame and recognition to help good causes, which is admirable, but not nearly as admirable as someone like Geldof who not only has the fame but also puts in all the legwork. Becks has an OBE, which I think is fair recognition for what he's done. Not quite. Geldof is a KBE which is one of the highest forms of knighthood, whilst SAF is a Knight Bachelor which is one of the lowest. And, as I'm sure KPR will point out, SAF got a CBE for services to football, and a knighthood for services (i.e. donations) to the Labour party...
Ta for clarification It is all very elaborate init this knight stuff Balls imo There are people on site in these places that do it every day for little or nowt, someone comes ina few weeks a year and gets an award, it is messed up
Ferguson got his knighthood for services to referees bank balances.Bobby Charlton got his for services to butting his nose in when it doesn't concern him. George Best once called him a mouth-piece and a brown-noser.Most clubs had one,Liverpools was Emlyn Hughes.
