    Hi guys,

Just wanted an indication of whether we ought to run this as a competition on the same lines as last year, whether you would simply prefer just a reference thread, or whether you just think it is a pointless discussion overall?

Obviously with season-long competitions, interest can decline as it wears on, therefore I don't want to start a thread if we think it won't have any real input.

Once we get some feedback we can make a decision.

Just throw some ideas out there as to what and how we could or could not do it, and we'll see what we come up with.

If there were to be a thread- how would we feel about Saturday morning as launch day?

Toppy, I think the problems with this competition are.....
    1. It's too long and members lose interest, especially if their horses are not doing so well.
    2. Changing horses through injury and/or poor performance can be a bit of a bind, even if you're aware your horse(s) is out of action.
    3. One big priced winner can win the competition, even if the other nine perform poorly.

If it is to succeed at all, it would be better to run it on a monthly basis, although you could have an overall winner as well- perhaps based on the "highest average placing" say from October to April.
If you ran it on a monthly basis, members could submit a new list of ten horses prior to the first day of the following month; and you could do away with substitutions (for injured horses as well), thereby making the job simpler for yourself. If a member forgot to submit a fresh list for next month, then his existing 10 horses would be used.
These are just suggestions but overall I do not think it is worthwhile in the format I ran it previously.
Thanks for your positive attitude and interest. <ok>

I think that is a very fair assessment Tam. Competition wise it just does not seem worthwhile.

I was favouring a discussion thread where people post their 10 To Follow and then it being easy for new and existing members to check and also for us to just use as conversational as and when certain horses run.

Not sure how we could decide it but could we create, as a team effort, a 606 10 To Follow?

I think the substitutions is what makes it tricky. I would just say put your 10 up, if one of them gets injured then tough luck. I would also say that, at the end of each month, each poster calculates his own profit / loss and posts it on the thread, thus sharing the work around. Only those who submit their score will be displayed on the leaderboard. That should significantly reduce the amount of work for the thread owner.

First name on my list starts with "F" and ends with "lemenstar" ;)

None of it is difficult Oddy as I automated it all. It's the ongoing commitment to keeping up to date v (as you correctly pointed out) the waning interest as time passes.
