Good post and I strongly agree. Easy to be an arm chair football manager / CEO / Prime Minister etc. When you're in post, you finally get to see the whole picture and realise it's not as easy as you think.
Most people in football have a fixed length contract, all the club has to do is pay off whats remaining and the person cannot do anything about it.
'He considers himself a businessman'??? I think you will find is is one, and a successful one at that, and that, like it or not, running a premiership football club is a business, not a charitable hobby. The fans, us, provide the sentiment. I don't want a sentimental owner who will clog up the club with ex fans favorites who may not be competent. Thats why I don't understand all this 'keep Derry on as a coach' rubbish - just because we love his attitude on the pitch doesn't mean he is technically qualified or temperamentally suited for the role, and none of us can say either way. If he is I hope we keep him on as he is manifestly a good bloke from the fans perspective. If Gallen was dumped in a poor manner without dignity/respect that's a problem, but the fact of dumping him isn't.
As good a servant to the club that he's been, he may not have been a good enough coach for his employers. Its very different in the youth set ups at clubs and it is in a big change at the moment. I've met a few ex pro's who coach and they either don't have the character or ability to communicate with kids.
