To all Saint Supporters I have been going to football now on and off since 1988/89 season. And I can honestly say the loudness and the support is at its best right now. The one thing NA has given us is to be patient. He has clearly stated the support is incredible and it HELPS...... Even if we go 0-2 down, if anything the support should get more, no moans and groans with a few 'F' words thrown in All I am saying is we need to carry this on, remember the 5 year plan. Support all the way. Would be nice if the rest of the ground started singing as well. Onwards and upwards................
Couldn't agree more. The support has been great this season and I can see us getting even better next if we win enough games to stay competitive.
Those that manage to go to away games deserve a pat on the back. Their support has been unwavering. As for the atmosphere down at St Mary's sometimes it is haunting. A family member coming back from Romsey swears blind that on the 2ND April when we played MK dons that she heard the roar as she entered the avenue at the top of Bassett which time wise seems to have co-incided with the third goal. When we all get together we can and do make a phenomenal noise. Terrific.........
Disagree about the noise at home. Often seems the bigger the crowd, the worse effect it has on the atmosphere. Think earlier in the season when we had 18,000-20,000 the noise was better, but may just be the accoustics. Agree about the away support, has really gone up a notch in the past few seasons. As someone who went to nearly all away games in the 80's and 90's when we were much more successful and had some great teams, I'd say we are taking better away support now than back then (although we always had massive cup followings back then, but the league games were very hit and miss)
Could not agree more about the away support. I took my 5 and 7 year old to their first Saints game at Leyton Orient and the atmosphere was electric. I don't think the Orient fans knew what had hit them! Come on you Saints!
Remember last year they were discussing that Championship attendances were poorer than before. A tv pundit said that it shouldn't be forgotten that Southampton had dropped out of the league which was bound to affect gates. We have terrific following.
I certainly wouldn't miss seeing their manager blaming everyone but his team for losing a game. Come to think of it, the Pompey AND Brighton managers have more in common than I thought!
To be honest I think cottrell (or however you spell it) has done a good job. He is getting a tad fed up with getting little or no support. That is why he is a bitter, bitter man in interviews. As a person he is not normally like that. He is likely to lose one or two more players during the summer. Not sure how he will get on for next season at that rate. They will have only around 8 players signed the rest are likely to be Loanee's. Next thing that will happen is the premier league will limit the number of loanee's you are allowed to field. There should be no doubt that Pompey are in the sh*te.......
