Thought this was interesting! http://www1.skysports.com/formula-1...car-giant-will-look-to-return-to-F1-in-future "Those hopes have now increased after the head of Honda R&D suggested that if Formula 1's regulations were enticing enough for the car company then it would certainly consider a return." I'm wondering whether its the engine regs or the percieved budget caps thats tempting them. Could this be the potential for them to supply engines first prior to making a full come back as a works team? Personally I think they will just look to supply engines and who better than Mclaren! Thoughts?

It makes sense I guess. With Honda making money via McLaren. Eitherway Mclaren need to ditch Mercedes or they will forever be in their shadow. especially now they have taken their prized driver.
Agreed, besides, the romantic in me wants to see the "Powered by Honda" on the side of the McLarens again and hopefully a move away from boring Chrome livery!
Yeh I would imagine that would strike a nerve or two, considering he has often talked about following in Senna's footsteps. For me 2014 would be the perfect opportunity to start that Mclaren/Honda partnership.
Knowing the history of japanes engine suppliers they will want a japanese driver in the car so.... Yuji Ide for Mclaren in 2014 anyone?
Honda never stay in F1 for very long though. A soon as success drops off they pack up and leave. Everyone is mentioning McLaren, but Williams also had good success with Honda and now that FW doesn't pull all the strings there now, they may not have such an issue working with a tema no longer run by a paraplegic (if you beleive the absurd sounding rumours that was a reason for them ditching Williams after 1987). It would be a huge welcome to bring more manufacturers back into the sport to give a bit of variety, so long as they learn from the mid-00's and leave the teams to build and run the cars!
Just really need cosworth to produce a serious power plant for the new regs and maybe the Volkswagen group also entering - true diverse competition at the pinnacle of motor racing!
Aye, the more the merrier! If VW come into F1 I’d think they would race under Audi badge.. give their prestige brand a chance to go head to head against Mercedes. Don’t know their current financial plight but a Ford return, maybe teaming up with Cosworth wouldn’t go-a-miss either!
It'd be nice to get costs properly under control, some stable regs that give close racing, and maybe consider opening the grid up to more teams again.
My Grandad and I actually sort of had a hunch that Honda might end up making an entry back into the sport. I think it would be really cool to see Honda supplying engines again given their previous success in the sport. Might even see McLaren make a return to that classic white and orange livery, but if not that they would probably still move to something with a bit more color in comparison to the chromed layout that they've had for a while now. I wouldn't mind any of that either, so long as the gaps between teams closer to the bottom does close up a bit in comparison to the midfield teams. Personally, I don't really want any more HRTs or Marussias or even Caterhams if they are just going to be slow and get in the way.
If Honda do come back as an engine supplier theres no guarantee that the engines would be any good. They'd have some catching up to do at the very least! Would like to see them back as a team though, my first car was a Honda
A Honda return would be great and 2014 would be the logical time, but the report sort of suggests an entrance further into the future. Like others have said, this could be just what McLaren need.
Whose to say they wont go with Sauber? Kamui must of had a bigger impact with getting on the podium than we thought.
I would've thought that Kamui being on the podium would have a big impact as well, but apparently it didnt change the situation in regards to him keeping his seat or not. Makes me think that he actually might be safe, but I dunno. But yes, I think Honda going to Sauber might not be that unreasonable honestly. Sauber-Honda from 2014 on perhaps?
