i referred to this earlier: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_consent note the links to continents for specifics by country.
I understand there is a difference between young teenagers having underage consensual sex and adults grooming kids, but it isn't cut and dried. First we know teenage boys are ruled by raging hormones to the point that it often dictates their actions and so this could be seen as diminished responsibility on their part because they don't have the maturity or self-control that adults have. Young girls aren't guided as much by hormones and cases should be considered on the basis of whether the girl took part willingly or was pressured into it. There will also be situations when it was a natural part of a healthy relationship and neither partner was damaged, so I think the circumstances in each case have to be considered and the law applied accordingly. Anyway IMO underage sex between consenting teenagers is a complete red herring in this discussion because that scenario has no comparison to adult predators preying on children. Any perceived ambiguity between the two is only of use to those who aim to justify the acts of sex criminals.
Well said! It amazes and worries me how many people on here are trying to justify having sex with under age girls, blaming it on the girls etc. Is this board populated by *****s as well as happy clappers?
No ... but there is some naiivete. The bottom line is that if you are an olderr man, irrespective of the fact that some young girl might, for whatever reasons, be coming on to you, YOU know that it is illegal and you are old enough to therefore refuse - and that should be the end of it.
What's the latest with Lee Collins? I read about some of it and he sounds like a right ****. Mind you, his bird sounded mental too. Absolute ****ers, these celebrities.
Seems to me that there's no question mark over Savile's guilt now. The main pain is going to come from sussing out who knew, was complicit, and helped cover it up. Some people, and corporations, are in for a kicking I think.
There was always going to be a can of worms opened after the TV show, not to mention the blanket media coverage. At least the police have something better to do now than play speeding snooker on the motorways. Wouldn't mind seeing the Louis Theroux documentary on Saville again, wonder if the Beeb will put it on.
The thing that complicates the conversation is the arbitrary cut off for things, and I appreciate that having had a previous discussion where I said 16 might be legal but 18 is the youngest I'd consider going out with (then based on the maturity of the person) all I've done is give myself a higher arbitrary level, but from a legal point of view what a difference a day makes. What I find truely astonishing is that 120 women, of up to late fifties in age, have been very quiet for all of this time. The nonsense spoken about his so-called power bullshit is simply that, nonsense; there are and have been for a very long time, very confidential helplines for just this sort of thing. Also, while I can see that there appears to be a over-whelming weight of accusation, I am amazed at the manner in which Saville has been hung, drawn and quartered in the media, by everyone from the BBC to the police who have yet to investigate the allegations. I never liked Saville, to be honest he was a creepy sort of guy who seemed to hide behind a veil of do-gooding, but his decline, on nothing more than accusations, seems to be brutal and complete - I believe the truth will uphold much of the rumour, but the process of getting to the truth is a real concern. Is it only me, or does the expediency of his sacrifice by the great and good of tinsel-town not smack of some element of self-preservation - much more to come now the stones have begun the lifting!
Cheers pal its there- would have posted link but easy to find- actually looking forward to watching this
When you learn to read, go back to my original posts and then a brief apology will be acceptable. Now excuse me whilst I get my cape, mortar board and cane. I've a couple of very naughty catholic school girls coming over. Sixth form of course
What's weird is that the police announced they were pursuing 120 lines of enquiry, when they relate to 8 incidents. When was the last time they announced the number of lines of enquiry rather than just the number of crimes they were investigating?
