I'm sorry, and I usually agree with the vast majority of what you say as I'm sure you are aware, but I'm afraid if you think that was a "bench mark red card sending off offence" then I think on this occasion you're talking out of your arse, and I find it ridiculous that you can't even begin to see what I'm talking about here. Regardless of whether or not you believe Barnett did initially try to pull him back (look again, he didn't) or deliberately hack him down to stop him scoring (again, he didn't, he clumsily ran into the back of Suarez who had stopped running) you can't tell me that he was the last man as Michael Turner was alongside them both at the time of the coming together and was an extra defender meaning Leon couldn't have been the last man. I'll stand by exactly what I have already said on this thread, that being that the ref almost certainly should have given the penalty as ultimately it was a foul by Leon, but it was a foul that was won by Suarez by slowing down and allowing Barnett to clumsily run into the back of him (technically legal and within the rules as you, and I have have both pointed out) rather than from anything even remotely malicious by Barnett. If that is a nailed one sending off offence then **** this game for a laugh, I'm off to watch the tiddly-winks. On this instance Suarez wasn't cheating, however rather than choose to go directly for goal he opted instead to win a penalty and take his chances from 12 yards, fortunately for us on this occasion the ref decided not to point to the spot and we got away with it. And in answer to your "what if it was Holt" question I can assure you I would have been entirely embarrassed, just as I am every time he takes a ludicrous tumble in an attempt to win a foul where one hasn't been committed. I have never, ever defended one of our players when they have clearly dived or tried to simulate a foul as I always call it how I see it regardless who is involved so you're wasting your time with that line of debate
He slowed down to take a shot! Unless you think players normally take shots when they are sprinting at top speed?
I do fella, in fact I always try to be moving as fast as I possibly can before "pulling the trigger" myself (no, I don't really and I do accept your point about why he might have slowed down, but I will never accept that it was a nailed on sending off offence as long as I live)
munky, i mean this genuinely, you couldn't be more wrong if you tried. i'm embarrassed by what you are saying.
**** off with your patronising comment and go stick your head back up your arsehole where it usually is!! "embarrassed by me" indeed!! Who the **** do you seriously think you are pal????? Prick
i won't take offence as your response made me laugh but by all means, try and find someone who agrees with you on this.
I think there are certainly at least a handful of people on this forum who would agree that you sometimes come across as being a patronising prick with your head rammed up your own backside to be honest, but that's a whole different issue....
Munky, my point about Barnett was what he did after the challenge, he deliberately got up and ran to the ref claiming Suarez dived. that to me is as bad diving to get the penalty.
i have to say, that did annoy me. i wouldn't be surprised if players are told to do that whenever suarez goes down on the chance that the ref will fall for it. but as i say, suarez really only has himself to blame in all this. i personally felt he'd cleaned his act up this season but seeing him at carrow road, the feigning of injury, the constant chat to the ref, the little gestures... it all adds up and ok, he didn't dive as much as last season but if he could cut all that out he might start getting more decisions which he actually deserves!
To be fair to Suarez he could have easily gone down when setting up their third goal after a really sloppy sliding tackle from Turner, but on that occasion he chose to stay on his feet and set up Sahin to close out the game just after half-time. It was a dreadful piece of defending by Turner (yet again - I'm sure he was awesome at Hull only a couple of years back?) and Suarez could easily have left his trailing foot dangling to make contact and tumble over to earn a pretty nailed on penalty but to his credit he stayed on his feet and did the business. Great goal I'm not for a second saying he dived in the Barnett incident by the way, more that he used his almost unrivalled skill in this situation to force the defender to make a mistake in an attempt to buy a penalty that he did deserve to earn this time around. I've watched it again a few times on Player (about 1:45 in) tonight and what I saw only re-inforced my view on what happened, still seems pretty clear to me regardless what anybody else may think. I still can't see Leon making two attempts to "pull him back", I can't even see him making one to be honest though I can see him getting suckered straight into Suarez's trap, performing some clumsy defending and piling into the back of him that deserved to concede a penalty - which I believe I have said all along. I can however also still see Michael Turner alongside them both, negating the 'last man' and 'nailed on red card' argument as well If I'm watching a different set of highlights from that game then fair enough, but if so then I'd appreciate someone pointing me in the direction of the ones they've seen so we can all agree on what actually happened. Ta
I think there is a Have I Got News For You headlines round here. I'm going for "Suarez is a cheating Ladyboy"
But surely that should be the part of any centre forwards game? you try to make something out of anything so if the best thing to do is try to draw the foul from a defender then he hasn't done anything wrong in that incident.
Yeah, I have kinda already said he didn't break any rules and I do accept that this is firmly a part of the modern game nowadays. Doesn't mean I have to either like it or agree with it, and I would personally always rather a player actually go for goal rather than look to win the penalty. There are far worse examples of what I'm talking about than this one, and to be fair he did look like he was lining up to shoot like the Liverpool fan said, but I'm sure he was more than happy to let the defender pile into the back of him - until the ref failed to blow up of course
