What does Reeves need to do to become a regular feature in the match day squad? He looks like he needs to bulk up a bit. I understand he is a bit of a utility player which although good for the squad doesn't usually lend itself to regular playing time. What is his best position?
Probably go and give Morgan and Steve Davis dead legs when Richardson got subbed off I thought Nigel might put Reeves on at right back, I didn't really think that Yoshida might be able to play there. Maybe if there were 8 minutes to go instead of 80 he would have.
Just saw the highlights on player, was impressed with luke shaw's attacking really fast and controlled dribble and a good cross. However he was definitely at fault for their second, he was covering the lad who scored it but stopped marking him when the scorer went to play a 1-2, looked very poor and was pointed at by boruc and another defender. He was in a tougher position for the third but a more experienced left back may have been marking the scorer at the back post rather than the already marked striker. I want to see him given a chance at left back, think he will be class once he has the experience and defensive attitude to never let his man get any space.
The thing to remember about the likes of Shaw, Chambers and the like is that they are 17 (and only just 17 in Shaws case) playing in the U21's. I know that JWP has come into the first team and put in some very good performances but I think its still clear that he is a little short of strength at times. I guess what I'm saying is that although they are great talents we mustn't expect too much too soon.
Very true but occasionally a few are good enough to be pitched straight in. The Wallaces, MLT etc. We have to trust in Nigel to make the right calls.
Indeed and JWP is a very exciting prospect to have broken through so early, particularly in CM. I noticed that last season he scored a fair few goals to boot and so far this season he has got into some good positions and been unlucky not to have a goal to his name already. But as you say, I trust the youth coaches and Nigel to bring through those that are ready. If only we can stay up this season then I think we have some really exciting years to come from both our own youth system and the young players we have brought in to the club (Mayuka, Ramirez, Clyne, Gazza).
The problem with playing in defence is that you only learn by playing games and making mistakes, and playing in the premiership means the team will get punished for those mistakes, Im sure Shaw has seen the rerun of the game today, has been bollocked by the squad and the coaches and will be a better player for it. I think the club wants to keep the youngsters together playing U18 and U21 rather than loaning them out so NA can see them playing together like yesterday. Now we are in the premiership the U21 will be playing against quality players on a regular basis, Im sure the U21 teams from Man U, Man City, Arse and Chelsea would hold thier own in League 1 possibly even the Championship
