exactly what lucaaas said. Every club has somebody like him, At Ipswich it is Lee Martin! Diving only really came to the fore when this culture of any contact is a foul came in. Supers my main issue is the fact of some fans of your club (not you because you are pretty fair) seem to like to throw the accusations around yet should look closer to home as well.
Personally I'd just find it amusing that the chanting had provoked the reaction the supporters wanted from him. Though I would call for a season long ban just to piss the Mancs off
well so would i, but i can guarantee you there'd be fans complaining to the authorities and the fa would get involved and he'd get a ban or rap across the knuckles. even so, that ban is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. biting opponents, blatant handballs and charges of racism are bad enough for any player in a whole career i would think! liverpool would probably be better off for their own reputation getting rid of him but he is such a good player, i doubt they could do without him on the pitch.
and i agree about other divers not getting mentioned, such as young and welbeck etc, but that doesn't mean that suarez shouldn't be discussed. all it means is that those others should be talked about as well, which to be fair we have been talking about bale on here too.
Grant Holt does go down too easily (not what it sounds like!) at times and I don't understand that culture when you should surely try and stay on your feet. But he doesn't dive without being touched. This is the crux of he matter. Suarez doesn't even get touched and he dives. Its not a matter of being off balance and getting knocked. The great Roger Hunt said yesterday that if he stayed on his feet more he would score more goals!
The weird thing is I think most Liverpool fans like him because he's so different off the pitch and seems like a likeable decent person despite his misdemeanours on the field. If I remember correctly his wife said she wouldnt be with him if he was angry as he was on the pitch, off the pitch! And in the recent "Being:Liverpool" documentary thing Lucas said that Suarez was just a funny guy off the pitch but when he was on it he was always angry
They don't do it on a regular basis like Suarez does. It also doesn't help that Rogers has gone to the head of referees.
i'm sure you're right lucaaas! often the case that people are different when they cross that white line. it would be great to say, in 12 months time, 'i really like suarez now', but i just don't think it will be possible unless he stops with the theatrics.
I'd like to say that I don't care what Suarez is like off the pitch but there are two Chelsea players who I detest for their onfield and off field behaviour. We know that the likes of Bale, Young etc. also dive but I don't think they've ever been accused of feigning injury, making racist remarks, biting etc. Christ, no-one dived more than Ronaldo but I think he 'cleaned up' his act towards the end of his tenure in the Premier League, can you see Suarez doing the same?
Going back to our game against them, whilst I'm not disputing that Liverpool should almost certainly have been awarded a penalty following the coming together of Suarez and Barnett, I definitely don't think it was as blatant as has been argued and I will always maintain that Leon didn't actually do anything wrong. Suarez won that penalty plain and simple by slowing down to a virtual standstill with Barnett still moving at pace to try to catch up with him, the big fella couldn't then slow down enough and ended up piling into the back of him making it look far worse than it actually was. Had Suarez carried on at the speed he was moving at and attempted to play the ball and score from open play Leon would probably not have made any contact, however the cheating little tosser opted instead to play the percentages and move himself into a position where it was impossible for our gangly defender not to foul him, and thankfully for us the ref couldn't see anything wrong with it either and kept his whistle in his pocket. Like I said, Suarez didn't dive and technically he didn't break any rules, but I really, really hate this culture of looking for a penalty as soon as you get into the 18-yard box, rather than simply going all out going for goal and trying to score a goal from open play. Does my fricking head in I tell thee
sorry munky, you've definitely got the blinkers on with this one. it was a stone wall penalty... and should have been a red card too. in fact, barnett fouled him twice. suarez is perfectly within his right to position himself between the ball and the player if he gets goal side. that's good play. it means he either runs through and scores or gets taken out. thankfully it didn't affect the result.
I'm not disputing the fact that it was a penalty and I couldn't believe it either when the ref didn't give it, but I'm afraid I cannot agree at all that Barnett should have been red-carded, absolute nonsense! If Suarez hadn't slowed down and played for the foul it wouldn't have looked anywhere near as clumsy as it did - are you seriously suggesting that Leon meant to deliberately run into the back of him and have his arms dangling all over him?
no - suarez positioned himself legally so that barnett had no option but to foul him or let him run through and shoot - that is top forward play and he did absolutely nothing wrong during any of that incident, nothing at all. barnett pulled him back initially, suarez wriggled free, then barnett clumsily fell on top of him. straight red guaranteed as he was last man. there can be no argument. i wonder what you'd have said had it not been given to us when say holt ran through and got hauled down. we got away with it, big time. we got one go against us at white hart lane where morison was blatantly hauled down when clean through, so i suppose it evened up to a degree. just to add, had it been me in barnett's position and the penalty been given, i'd have been so sure it was a red card i'd probably have just walked off the pitch before the ref had a chance to show his card, it was that clear cut.
Bit off topic, but one of the most embarassing games in modern day football is El Classico. The best players in the world making tits of themselves. Busquets is worse than Suarez. P.S I hate Suarez
Think we'll have to file this one in the "agree to disagree drawer" because the fact I have a contrary opinion to your shows that there can be an argument about it and I'm afraid I will never, ever see that as a "straight red guaranteed" as long as I have a hole in my arse
jeez, you're actually serious about this then? you're argument doesn't stand up mate (a bit like suarez ) would love to find another fan who thinks the same way you do on this one munky!! as stone wall penalties and red cards go (and its a saying which gets used even when its not one), this is the bench mark!
I have to agree with Supers on this one, I was in the Community Stand (probably as far as you can get from the said incident) and turned to my mate and I quote "****, that's a penalty and a red". (Nb. I gave myself a good talking to, for swearing in the Community Stand!)
Just going off topic briefly. Was in the community stand disabled are for a game a few years a go when I nearl broke my ankle. I was unable to get to my usual seat in the N and P but the club very kindly allowed me and my family into a disabled area. Unfortunately in the first half the power was out for half the stadium so the glass in front steamed up as it was so cold (I was in the front row so I was one of the people responsible for wiping the screen clean, a bit hard when you can't stand fro long periods of time) and we couldn't watch the game on the TV provided as alternative either. But the power was sorted for the second half so we could watch the game through a clean screen. Experience was much better and I'm pleased the club gas such facilities available.
