Well now we've completed our 21st Century Pompey squad, I'd be interested to see your individual choices for a starting XI.

    Choose whatever formation you like.

    KABOUL
    PRIMUS
    STEFANOVIC

    Midfielders
    BERGER
    DIARRA
    MENDES
    MERSON
    O'HARA
    O'NEIL
    PROSINECKI
    TAYLOR

    ----------------------JAMES----------------------

    JOHNSON----CAMPBELL (C)----KABOUL----TAYLOR

    ---------------MENDES------DIARRA---------------

    O'NEIL-------------PROSINECKI-------------BERGER

    ---------------------YAKUBU---------------------

And if we are doing 7 subs: Hislop, Primus, Stefanovic, O'Hara, Merson, Kanu, Crouch

Lastly, did we want to do something similar for the manager, or is it a one man contest?

T-Rex, we don't have 7 subs on the bench at Pompey these days!

Lol yeah, but its not like we have the likes of diarra and prosinecki anymore is it? So I think if we are this far into the fantasy land then naming 7 subs wont hurt, right?

    ;)

no question about the keeper or right back.
de zeeuw is one of the best centre halves i've ever seen, on top of that he's also a cracking bloke, total gentleman. memories of distin bombing it up front, stay in the memory.
left back has been a week point, i've opted essentially for a left winger, although during promotion season taylor was unbelievable.

    diarra. 'nuf said.
    prosinecki. same again
    merson, absolute class.
d'alessandro, loved the fans, the fans loved him. had a cracking shot and cross on him as well.

yakubu and crouch would've been quality together. crouch getting on the end of crosses and knocking them down for the yak.]

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

oh my just read back, and d'alessandro is not in the squad.

I like your thinking Josh, but regretably Devo didn't include d'Allessandro in the final squad of players to select from......

I do agree with you though, what a brilliant passer of the ball. Sheer class !

funnily enough my and my old man often have this convo, and it's different every time. the little argentinian is in there every time.

there is clearly players who should be in every team (jamo, johnson, diarra and prosi) other than that it could be virtually anyone.

He didn't receive enough nominations to be put straight into the squad, but he received enough to make it to the poll for the final place. Unfortunately for him he didn't pick up any votes there and Distin was duly elected <ok>

Of the five strikers on the list I'd say Defoe is by far the most skillful. Looking thru some of the line-ups here I see he only gets the nod once. He's not even on the subs bench in some squads. Reflects his popularity down here doesnt it.

I didn't pick him at all, even in the nominations. I thought he didn't perform as well as Crouch for us during the entire time at the club, lost interest as soon as Redknapp left, complained about things without cause to do so and didn't put in half the effort the man he replaced at the club did. That he is a great natural striker is undeniable but he's not a team player and, as far as I'm concerned, didn't do enough to justify his place in the team.
