Rules: http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/143227-brb-prediction-league-rules-2012-13 ........................................ brb takes a very brief look back when we last met at Priestfield: Gillingham 1 -0 Aldershot Town On Monday 2nd January 2012, Gillingham welcomed Aldershot to the Priestfield for their first League Two game of the New Year. Both Gills loan strikers Jo Kuffour and Frank Nouble had since returned to their respective clubs near the end of 2011, so with no new signings for the Gills at this early stage of the January transfer window, it meant that Danny Kedwell was the lone striker up front. The game was less than a minute old when Joe Martin picked up an early yellow card, other than that moment the first half seemed to pass without anything memorable on a cold January afternoon. The second half started much brighter with the Gills kicking towards the Rainham End in front of a 5,432 attendance (208 Aldershot fans). Within a minute of the restart Danny Jackman gathered the ball in the Aldershot box to fire home and put the Gills 1-0 up, this was immediately from two early attempts on goal by Gillingham players were blocked. The biggest threat for Aldershot appeared to come from their number seven Jermaine McGlashan; this was to cost the Gills on the hour mark, when Joe Martin was sent off for a second bookable offence after a challenge on the player. Despite several close chances for the shots, after Martin’s dismissal reduced the Gills to ten men, the Gillingham defence remained solid as they ran the clock down and took the three points in a 1-0 victory with defender Matt Lawrence being named as Man of the Match. With some of the other League Two results going the Gills way, they are now sixth placed and currently three points clear and a better goal difference than the teams just outside of the play-offs, as the Gills now prepare to go in to their FA Cup third round tie at home this Saturday against Stoke City.
