Once again it's the cheap promotion day coming up v Barnsley. Being a season ticket holder I thought it abit for the club to state in a recent programme that its good that our season ticket holders back the football for a Fiver day...really .....no one has canvassed my opinion . It may be nice to see the valley busier than usual on these days BUT if the object is to gain more regular fans on the back of it it hasn't worked in the past so doubt it will work now .
In my opinion they need to run this sort of promotion for mid week games. The crowd for the Watford game was very poor. Can any one remember what our average attendance was when we won the championship in 2000? Or in our first season out of the premier?
Good point regarding doing it for a midweek. But I assume it must be a bit of a money spinner for the club, as after the first one I thought that would be it, but this will now be the 4th(?) so I think there has to be a profit in there for them - something they might not get on a Tuesday night? I'm all for the initiative. I don't think too much about my season tickets or the prices etc - it's just nice to see a packed Valley again. You might not see results now, but I bet a lot of those kids who's first game it was will now be following CAFC. I think it's more about reaching a new generation than looking to build the gate for the following home game (though I imagine the owners will disagree).
This will be my last game before flying out to Australia a few days later, very happy at only having to pay a fiver. Last time we were home to Barnsley we were 3-0 down at half time, praying that isn't the case again.
We are definitely in the top 10 of average attendances in the championship so far this season and that's with a very indifferent start at home
That was one of my lowest points as a CAFC fan. I think it was when I realised that we were in deep, deep trouble that season.
Two words re Football for a Fiver: Ketchup. Shoes Hope you get a good result for your last match before the move, Doc, and hope the move goes well. I'll be moving up to Scotland (not as far) this week and my last match was the 2-3 to Derby, so hopefully it'll be a bit better than that
As somebody who has approximately £7 in my bank account and no season ticket, I'm pretty happy with this
I think they are good, even if a lot of "plastic" fans turn up, who cares? Its money in the clubs coffers. I too remember the last game at home to Barnsley, I vaguely remember talking about **** hair cuts, and having a swedish fella in front of us in an aston villa shirt, it was an unpleasent and surreal day
I have happier memories of barnsley being 3 0 down at halftime in the just before we moved to selhurst I think and winning 4 3 with Robert lee in the goals
The best thing about the 1-3 to Barnsley was that the fans actually stopped singing "Super Alan Pardew" and started singing "We want Pardew Out"
For the £5 promo matches against Exeter. Chesterfield and Stevenage, my daughter brought a load of her friends along. They loved every minute of it, they really did. A few have returned with their own parents since then;one has started going to Barnet on a regular basis and a couple of others only go when I take them. Although it's always a fiver for nippers, it is obviously a lot more for the parents to get in. Perhaps the occasional family ticket would help,whereby a parent and two kids can get in for twenty quid. They may spend a bit more on food and merrchandise with the cash saved.
Is there no family offer at the Valley? I would say any family offer would be 2 adults and 2 children, but surprising if it isn't available. Something for the club to look at perhaps. Although in most of the ground, £20 is less than 1 adult ticket, so it might end up being £25 or something
I'm not sure about a family offer, IA. I will look into it. £25 for two adults and two children would be more than fair. Or one parent and three kids? Something like that would entice more families. I'm sure those sort of prices would annoy season-ticket holders, though. I have a ST (not an STD), but wouldn't care if parents and their kids could afford to attend more games.
More than happy with family offers myself say 1 parent + 1 kid = £18 1 parent + 2 kids = £20 1 parent + 3 kids = £22 2 parents + 2 kids = £25 Just a thought
That is more than fair, AllHell. With those sorts of prices, I could easily start a North London branch of CAFC supporters. One of my mates goes to Spurs with his fifteen year old boy, and pays £1800 per year to sit behind a pillar. That's not including the train fares in from Hertford. Crazy!
Tickets for adults are £20/£22/£25, I think the club would have to have family tickets in the family stand, and then charge maybe £22/£25/£28/£40 for your options. If a family ticket is cheaper than an adult ticket, people might start 'leaving their children behind'.
You can't have family tickets that are cheaper than adult tickets. People will buy them and "forget" to bring the kids. As a ST holder I'm getting pissed off with all these cheap deals. It diminishes the value of the ST although I can understand why the club do it. More than one a season in addition to the Jackson 5 type deals that will ensue and I'll be reconsidering the ST next year.
