So... we play 4-4-2 with Ba and Cisse, and knock it long for 60 minutes. Then we bring Shola on and we play it short? Wtf?

We played a flat midfield, against a side with superb central quality, so we needed to take the midfield out of it. Therefore we needed to start with Shola and Ba and knock it long. Ba and Cisse cannot beat CB's in the air from GK's.

Pardew got it all wrong today.

If we conceded 3 great goals, I wouldn't have been that disappointed, but we conceded 2 ****ty set plays.

We need to switch to a different formation.

    Ratings -

Harper - 3 - Surprisingly poor in his decision making today. It's usually his best attribute. A couple of decent saves, but that's it.

Ferguson - 4 - Can't believe Pardew gave him his first start in over a year in a game like this, and had him behind Ben Arfa for most of the game. Ridiculous decision. The lad couldn't cope at LB, but made some great runs forward at times

Perch - 4 - Some decent challenges at times, but was beaten too often. Useless when defending set plays.

Willo - 3 - Why does he continuously foul players during our set plays?

Santon - 5 - Some great threatening runs and skill at times, but exposed at the back.

Jonas - 3 - Didn't offer enough defensive support, and not good enough on the ball. I'm surprised he didn't get sent off for that flying tackle.

Tiote - 4.5 - Some great tackles, but also some ridiculous ones. He let himself get carried away, and he should have been taken off earlier.

Cabaye - 4.5 - Some good passing, but most of them easily dealt with by Manure. Worked hard.

Ben Arfa - 4.5 - Some great moments of skill, but failed to finish his moves with a final ball. Anonymous for 70 minutes of the game.

Cisse - 2 - Should have scored that chance he had. Didn't do much else

Ba - 4 - Decent effort, but no goal unfortunately. Couldn't really do much with the service he got.

Bigi - n/a - Some great pace and energy late on.

Shola - 3 - Couldn't really do all that much.

Anita - 4 - Some good challenges, some decent passing, but didn't do all that much.

    MOTM - The fans.

Overall - Shocking performance and poor tactics from Pardew. If we wanted to play long balls we should have started with Shola. We never won anything in the air, which gave United all the early possession, and early pressure killed us.

For goodness sake I told you quite clearly that we had no chance of top 4 this season and that people would start blaming Pardew when we failed to live upto the heights of last season.

we got beat and were unlucky not to have got a stonewall penalty just before half time.

we did ok and 3 nil was harsh.

our aim is top 8 at best and we are still in with a shout if we get a win or two against Sunderland and West Brom ( not saying we will as they are just as good)

After we went 2-0 down we started to get a foot in on the game. The problem we have is we don't put enough quality into the box and don't get enough shots on target. Chalk this one off. Got 2 weeks to get the players drilled before the game at the village of the damned.

yeah sack the manager you know best don't you?

how many formations etc you come come up with mate? you have no idea so let Alan get on with it.

I wouldn't care today is a day you could say we had a stonewall pen just before half time not seen, a red card for RVP not seen and a possible goal ruled out.

Hopefully we will have our starting back 5 fit and ready to go. Having taylor on being a local lad will be a big plus point. If anyone can rile the troops up for this game it should be him. And shola of course.

I'm with you on that one, let's just hope we're suitably fired up and better prepared, say what you like, Ferguson certainly got his tactics right today, we appeared not to have any.

Williamson was shocking for the 1st goal, Evans was his man and he got 4-5 yards on him and had free header.

Shola could have done a job, he may not have but IMO we should not be starting Ba and Cisse together. 1 up top or one of them has to go out wide. A 5 man midfield with Anita or Bigirimana in instead of one of the strikers and we would have been able to get hold of the ball and pass it around in the first 15 minuets but instead we pumped it long and lost it every time allowing them 75% possession i believe it was.

Stopped watching at half time because I had footy myself but it can't have been as disappointing as that 1st 15mins.

For the first 5 mins we were just caught cold and kept going long ball, however after that we dominated until Vallencis came on and thee 3rd went in.

If we had got the pen who knows I thought we did ok

    This.

I'm not a football manager, and I'm sure Pardew knows what he's doing, but this for me seems to be at least part of the problem.

I honestly think we had a decent game but the forst 15 mins cost us.

After that we were the better team until the 3rd.

Anyone else utterly unconvinced by Vernon Anita ? Saying that every game Tiotes played in this season he's been sloppy

Oh well, we should invite a few of our Mackem buddies over and have a real pity-party! We were both guff this weekend and well beaten by the Manchester clubs!

Don't really want to think about today for too long, or dwell on individual performances, but 3s and 4s seem about right. Nowhere near good enough.

Anyway, my northeast brothers and sisters, to the derby <cheers>
