Anybody heard of the story about the Mercedes engines chewing up it's tyres more than the Renault and Ferrari engines?

    http://formula-one.speedtv.com/article/f1-mercedes-engines-wearing-out-pirelli-tires/

Mercedes are supposedly looking into its mappings now to resolve this issue so could this affect any major characteristics like top speed for instance? Pirelli are now making sure engine power is equalised which I didn't think was possible so I will be watching to see if certain drivers suffer with straight line speed like others have done in the past!

I think Bild or AMuS looked into this a few days ago but I thought it was nothing to be honest.

Using fastest lap times and even finishing positions as the only gauge of car speed is inherently flawed, unless of course you believe the driver doesn't make a difference.
Unlike last year theres not been one car dominating almost every race, in fact its pretty rare that one team dominates just one race, its great isn't it ;)

Lotus have been pretty consistent and then Red Bull, McLaren, Ferrari, Mercedes and Williams have all shined on occasion. There may be one overall winner but it would be hard to pick them out.

The Williams is clearly the fastest, how else do the Maldonado-haters explain his brilliance?

    Yes, I agree.

I don't usually vote on these sorts of poll because they are so speculative, especially with such competitive front-running teams. But I've decided upon Ferrari as I see it as the best all-rounder and equal best developing car at this mid-way point. Whether or not Ferrari will continue to stay ahead of the development of other teams, is also speculative; but I see no reason why not, especially when considering that Alonso is contributing to this 'sense of direction'.

Ferrari could turn out to the the outright fastest in Italy tomorrow, or at least thats what Alonso thinks!

I more or less agree with you Silver but in Germany I'd say Red Bull were in the mix to just as much as McLaren and Ferrari <ok>

potentially, but with Riakkonen unable to pass we never got to see if the Lotus' pace was far faster or just a little faster than the McLaren's.

Agree with this. I'd also put Mercedes on their own in China. I thought Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari were all pretty even in Canada. And I'd put McLaren equal with Lotus in Hungary given it was near impossible to overtake.

How can you say that Mclaren have been the best at Japan? It's only RB atm.

    Yes don't you worry ;)

Fred, Lewis ****ed up his setup and Jenson was 4 tenths off Seb with him getting lucky with the yellow flags, Lewis would of likely got closer, same applies to Ferrari and Lotus. I blame the driver not the car for not performing.

Race result shows McLaren certainly had no where near the best car in Japan.

LH went the wrong way on setup because they had to change it as the original setup was not working. If the car was fine, no need to have changed it!

Think you have to knock one off for Mclaren, Silver ;)
