You can choose the words that best describe todays debarcle but sorry lads, that was a pathetic show from us today and once again Sess and McClean were totally anonymous. If there isn't a role for Sess then don't play him just to give him a game. Drop him.

McClean was a headless, clueless chicken AGAIN today and offered nothing defensively and nothing offensively. How did he stay on the pitch? Drop him.

Johnson gets a bit of a leeway as he is just coming back from injury but to be brutally honest, that's 2 games in a row he has been completely anonymous too. Hope he hasn't just come here for a beano and an easy time.

Our midfield is hapless at times at possession and our defence today torn apart time after time after time.

If it wasn't for MiG, we'd have lost that 6 or 7 nil and to be honest we didn't deserve **** all else. I fully appreciate that City are a formidable force these days and especially at home but we really shouldn't be getting torn apart so easily, 6 years into our EPL adventure and not after spending the amounts of money we have in recent years.

Its early days of course in MoN's reign here but he needs to start and have a radical rethink about formations, team selections and tactics cos it ain't working Marty.

The only player who looked like he would score was again Fletcher and other than him, not a single threat from anywhere else.

I'm not panicking but hells teeth, you don't need to be a genius to work us out these days and if Fletcher gets injured we are ****ed big style.

Quite frankly, I was embarrassed by our naivety, our inability to pass to a red & white shirt and our lack of ambition and spirit.

Men against boys? That would be an insult to boys and unless things change radically, there will only be one winner in the up coming derby and it wont be the home team imo?

Got to agree with you Cest but to stop me from falling into a deep depression this is my positive take on things that I posted on an earlier post. Going for the forget and chin up approach.

    Next game

    Mignolet
    Bardsley O'Shea, Cueller Rose
    Larrson Gardner Vaughan Johnson
    Sessegnon
    Fletcher

Subs Westwood Bramble Brown Meyler Saha McFadden & Whickham or Ji

Strong defence, a midfield that can hold a ball pass and shoot genuine goalscorer and strong subs bench. Nothing to worry about a win classy performance and all will be rosy again. Thats what I think but I am not Marty

That's Johnsons normal performance when he starts matches, just doesn't contribute.
I was disappointed with Sunderland today tbh, last season they really scrapped and gave us no time on the ball which put us off our stride as Dortmund did in midweek. So to have players standing off us and letting us play was just suicidal. The absence of Cattermole was obviously a problem but shouldn't of been insurmountable if they'd grafted.2nd half I thought you gave up

McClean could be a very effective sub imo, room for him on the bench at least.

He (Johnson) was a small fish in larger pond at City though and I think he should be much more effective as he gains fitness - this is only his 2nd game back for us. Agree totally about the difference in performances from last season and today we were not even 2nd best for 2/3rd's of the game we were 3rd and 4th best.

We have, on paper at least, a far better team than the one who turned up today but if 3 or 4 or even 5 or 6 just cant be arsed to bother and we are playing a team that cost £300m to put together on their home patch then we are asking for trouble. We may not have the abundance of quality available but what we should have is fight and work-rate and we lacked even those today.

At least it will shut all the Cattermole knockers up now, as his absence was very much missed as would Ya Ya Toure for you lot. He is the competitive edge we sorely lacked today.

Worthy winners mate. No complaints at all.

Totally spineless without Cattermole, we lacked a leader out there today.

i think we were ok first half apart from a pathetic challenge by carlos! (why was bramble dropped?) second half they were top quality missed catts in the middle, but thought sess looked his best all season great pass into johnson but there motm kolorov (sp) cut it out. all in all there was deff signs of improvement..

McClean needs to be dropped until he gets his head out of his own arse and realises that he drastically needs to up his game to survive in this league, at the minute he's a passenger and we can't afford that. Sess? likewise. Larsson was slightly better but very lightweight and offers very little by way of defensive qualities and that's 2 games in a row that Colbackhas been ****e as well. Our whole midfield was shocking, lightweight and couldn't string 2 passes together all day.
Catts is sorely missed but for the life of me i can't understand why MON can't see that changes are needed in midfield, we needed Vaughan in the holding role today but he persevered with Colback who was very much anonymous again.
The defense can only cope with so much and if the ball is coming at them constantly as it was today then eventually they will leak goals. Sort the middle out and the defense is more than capable of coping.

Cattermole was a massive miss today. He will be a massive miss in the derby too! Can only see a mags win in the derby. Our midfield is weak as piss at the minute

    we missed cattermole badly.

first half i actually think we did okay and moved the ball about well. city played really well today though, everyone is saying that was their best performance so far this season, and we just couldn't live with them, as we had no bite and ball retention in the middle, which we knew anyway.

Why the **** was Bramble dropped for a half fit, slower, less physical Cuellar?

Does McLean have compromising pictures of MON & an Amsterdam hooker?

Have we nobody but Catts outside the back 4 that isn't terrified to tackle.

Absolute and utter ****e, again, Mags next sort it out MON because a no show in that and all the unconditional love & goodwill is blown away.

Embarrassed to be a Sunderland fan today, watching the game at my pals birthday BBQ with 60-odd guests, wanted to hide under a ****ing chair.

Couldn't agree more, I've been worried for a while but was hoping it was just a stuttering start and we needed to give the players time to gel but somethings just not right. I'm praying/hoping against all hope that a derby win will kick start our flat start to the season.

I know what you're saying Roger but we can't rely on the Jan window every year. I'm not panicking yet but just thought we have looked flat so far this season and tbh thank god for Fletcher otherwise we would be in trouble.

Think you will find I just said our midfield was hapless and Colback and Larsson were playing there? Do you need pictures next time?

just you highlight McClean who was poor yea but come on our central midfield was none existant yet again. It's literally bypassed in seconds!

We both wanted Bruce out mate and we both rate O'Neill but if he doesn't sort the centre midfield (which is the issue) fans will quickly turn on him

A lacklustre couldn't give a **** performance like that in 2 weeks time and we will get royally butt ****ed off the craas. Marty needs to either have a re-think on tactics, formations or personnel in those formations or this season is going to go south very quickly.

I'm already looking at clubs below us to see if their results are saving us because I just don't know where our goals are going to come from other than Fletcher? We look absolutely hapless going forward.

Not a good feeling at all tonight.

Someone on twitter reckoned MON has only won 2 from the last 20 PL games. Is this right?
