3.55 Newmarket: NUMBER ONE LONDON (NAP)

Ran really well in the already hot maiden at Ascot which won by Snow King and had Telescope 2nd, and the 7th winning since. Brian Meehan horses invariably step up on their debuts and I wonder if we might see a similar run to Most Improved last year, who was a promising 2nd before routing opposition on 2nd start.

He actually started to rally again towards the line and snatched 6th, unlike the race description saying he 'faded'. My arse.


3.35 Ascot: ARNOLD LANE 18/1 e.w

Nicely weighted and I think has the ability within him to be a listed/Group 3 horse. Really interested in his chances and has won nicely on soft ground before. Looked overpriced to me.
 
There are a few i like the look of tomorrow but the one i really wanted to share as i think it's the bet of the day is Hawaafez at Ascot. I think this is a proper horse more than capable of taking this and i would suggest taking as much of the currently available 4-1 as possible as i can see it going off shorter. The ground will not be a problem as he has already won a listed race this year on good to soft before being sent off fav in a group 3 which i think tested he's stamina too much with it being an extra couple of furlongs than today. This is the right trip, right going and right company and 4-1 is value in my opinion.

hey all,

i look in on this thread to see if what i've picked matches any posts but it seems a bit early in the jump season for all the races i watch to be on here. can i ask about some jumps tomorrow, see if anyone agrees/disagrees with me?..

the races i thought were interesting although i might have missed a trick, but i have picked two, are:

2:55 fontwell - topaze collonges / zepnove

3:50 gowran park - sizing europe / first leutenant

4:00 fontwell - papradon / sawago

4:20 gowran park (big field) - lord ben / mackeys forge

they're a bit obvious and not tips by any means because there's others i was considering, but there's some known horses in the races and i'm not sure what others think. i would have just stuck the races down without horses but thought i might as well put what i picked as choices while i asked opinions.

I think the 3.50 at Gowran on paper does come down to Sizing Europe and First Lieutenant, but neither are usually at their best at this time of the year and perhaps they ought to be considered carefully. First Lieutenant is likely to run well in a race or two in the early autumn before the ground gets soft and wet for the winter, as he hates soft ground. You will then see him reappear in the spring freshened up and lined up for a race at Cheltenham. So he will probably be fit and ready to do himself justice early on in the season whereas this will be a good blow of the cobwebs for Sizing Europe, who will have much more important races coming up.

OFF to sunny redcar today to hopefully watch BPG win the race he has been aimed at all year, the John Smiths mile (2.40) he is in top nic, ground is against him and its a tough race with some good horses, its dry here and if the wind picks up it will get dryer so thats a bonus, i will say defo EW he will be there or there abouts.

I normally get glees tickets but not today as the family are going which means there is a win or 2 on the cards, not had the nod but firebeam and commanche raider look the best 2, also he is booked at longchamp tomoz with High Jinx which looks to have a good chance, hopefully catch up with him today and see what the score is

If you pop onto the "Horses To Follow" thread you'll see my reasons. Unfortunately looks like he'll go off near enough favourite though.

Sorry to read about your Aunt Nass, my condolences.

I had a long hard look at Paintball and after much wrangling decided a watching brief is best today. Hope he wins for you though.

Morning chaps, selections as per League comp, although having seen Marcus Tregoning on Morning Line, I'm wishing I hadn't opposed his Hawaafez with Camborne. But my number one rule is never change your mind once you have written down a selection!

Nap must go to Ghurair in the 14-40 Ascot. Won over the distance and handles the ground, and although 5th in a Goodwood G2 LTO there was less than a length covering all five.

Enjoy your time "up North" Oddy - I'm planning a trip for the first weekend in November, also to see friends I haven't seen in more than 20 years :)

Oddy i spent a few nights in Presbury village near there two weeks ago...lovely spot if a few too many Range Rovers and padded jackets..

TopClass: Certainly agree with your comments on First Lieutenant. That was a fine race he ran in the RSA at Cheltenham to finish second to Bobs Worth over a distance maybe slightly too far. If he is anywhere near fit, he'll give them all a run for their money! <ok>
