Goodbye Michael

He is human, he came back for more, and the bravery needed to do that is immense, he took the fight right to the top as soon as he got used to the car in 2011 and in 2012 he could have done so much more.
Like you I want one more win from him, just one. With a few races to go yet, it would be a dream for us Schumacher fans, even if he cannot take the title again.
It would be a great story to tell your grandchildren.

 

I wouldn't begrudge him a win to be fair - I was a big Damon fan so Schuey was never my favourite but apart from a couple driving issues (the old MSc sticking his chin out) I think he has been a model pro and highlighted that the Merc is poor and Roseberg isn't that great.

Like I said, I think he should never have left!

 

People say they wont miss him, but after a few races into 2013 they will though they wouldn't admit it.

 

Don't think that I'll miss him. Yes he won a lot, but for me he ruined F1 for my childhood, when I should have remembered epic battles, with him involved, I get to remember 5 years if dominance . There will always be dislike for me for that reason.

 

in 2000 I actually wanted him to win to stop Hakkinen and Mclaren dominating but he and Ferrari had to get carried away didnt they =/

 

There's still a good chance he would join Ferrari again for one final year.

Well it is true, as tom mentioned in the other thread.

A sad day for me, but I am going to watch every practice session, every quali and every race till the end of the season.
He is the only driver to have raced with Senna and Prost to race with Hamilton and Vettel, what a career.

It was probably the best thing to do. He needed to prove nothing else more.

He came back to race, the primal need had to be satisfied, a pure racer... through and through, whether you are a Schumacher fan or not, savour these races, because he is the last of his generation.

I think Michael did ok in his 3 years. The only thing that let him down was the car really. Sure he didnt get the wins or titles people were expecting but he gave an extra element to the sport. another name to watch out for along with other world champions. He also prooved that older drivers can mix it up with the younger drivers.

Kind of feel a bit sorry for him (never thought i would say that!) as I feel he has been forced into this decision by Hamilton's move, I think that deep down he still wanted to race another year seeing as he has been better than Rosberg for most of the summer

The signs were there from the start, why were we suprised!?

Personally I will not miss him, the last 3 years were a waste of a half-decent seat. When he went in 2006 then there was some sadness that MSC would no longer be in the sport as he had been a pivotal figure in F1 for so long, but his recent stint is pretty forgettable except for his embarrasing accidents and questionable driving at times.

Doubtless he will stay on as an advisor and that would be good for Mercedes as his input would be very welcome, but at least others can now do the driving.

 

Thank you for articulating what are my feelings too. Couldn't work out quite how to say it. His only choices were down or out and I think he's made the better choice.

 

I'll miss him about as much as an unwanted rectale examination!
I have two points on this issue..

1 - IMHO, I think he retired too soon, Ferrari proved with the 2007 and 2008 cars that they would have given him a decent chance to win another WDC, if after that he no longer had the urge to go racing then retire with your legend intact - Hindsight is a wonderful thing!
2 - When he did retire, he should have stayed retired, coming back, again IMHO has done nothing for his legend, whilst it may not have tarnished it greatly its not enhanced it. He's beaten Rosberg on occasions but lets admit it, Rosberg isn't in the same class as the others (Vettel, Hamilton, Alonso, Kimi even Button and Webber..) and I think the Rosberg lovers will see just how average a driver he is when going up against Hamilton next year.
