I just feel there's a difference from a controlled pass to a desperate pass that's what I'm trying to get across. Fangio's passes were all controlled and the main reason why he got 5xwdc because he was always in control and didn't get killed in the process. Lewis can be the way he is on the track because of safety. He can act like a complete tit and never get punished for it. Get rid of tyre walls and replace it with concrete and then lets see him bother trying those OTT overtakes that they rate him so highly of.
Yes Silver: I see your point but as I say, it goes nowhere. Obviously had Hamilton been driving in a previous era, his driving would have to meet with the requirements of his day. I compete in historic racing as well as modern stuff and one must make a huge leap in driving technique when going from one to the other (often in the same day). Whatever one drives, one must drive to the strengths of one's car. If a low centre of mass (Rm) lightweight is shod with wide sticky slicks, all manner of darting about can be done which is completely beyond a high Rm heavyweight on skinny, hard, treaded, 'wooden' rubber. The only possibility of the comparison you draw is for the drivers to continually change cars in order to see how they fare in different eras (sic).
Haha! You're a good sport Silver! As I say, I saw your point in the first place but unless drivers are able to change cars as well as compete with dead drivers, it really leads nowhere.
How come Senna is widely regarded as the best ever and crashed more than Lewis? Do you still maintain those race hate Lewis sites your username signature linked to 3 months ago?
Senna is regarded by most as the greatest. What people believe is just their opinion. I personally believe that Senna is not the greatest, but again that's just my opinion. Part of why Senna is so highly regarded was because he delivered stunning performances in uncompetitive machinery - the only time Lewis had uncompetitive machinery was the first 9 races of 2009, and what did he achieve in all that time? 10 points and a DSQ.
Agreed The human has a brain that boasts over a million processors in parallel This allows us to make judgements at a granular level computers still cannot touch Only a truly primitive human would depend on statistics only to form a judgement about such complex issues like what great is You could have a good driver who has never won a WC because his car broke down etc and a driver who won a WC when every other car broke down Only chimpanzees would insist that one is better because he won, that why we can reason and think To judge a driver by considering thousands of variables is what differentiates the human brain, this judgement will however be biased according to pre conditioned beliefs Those able to judge without bias tend to be more highly regarded than most who are bound by conditioning To be able to see without bias is to be truly alive, to be able to appreciate the extremes of ability is to elevate oneself above worker bee status
Hmmm, why am I picturing a fishing rod right now I was not aware of the original fact so thank you for bringing it too our attention CookinFlatSix
Well if I'm talking nonsense and people are pretty certain of that then I'll admit defeat. Do you race at brands hatch?
You can't compare anyone to the old 'legend' of racing, who could say Hamilton, Schumacher or Vettel would've survived very long back then? 2 of the men said to be the greatest of all time by F1 drivers didn't make it (Clarke and Villeneuve), I personally think the 3 I mentioned wouldn't have lived, Senna would've probably died a lot earlier too.
Avoiding dying in the bad old days was more about luck than any talent for dodging death It's pretty dumb to say so and so wouldn't have survived back then as they were all playing the lottery Just to drive those death traps without seatbelts or roadside barriers or oxygen on standby is bravery bordering on irrationality You cannot say Lewis, Vettel et all would be brave enough to compete but not good enough to survive Would you have survived the public roads in the days of horse and carriage when tons of manure were deposited bringing disease and sickness?
Must admit that really gets my back up as well When certain posters say would of instead of would have But nothing is worse than multiple Id jack offs posting the same inane non truths over and over again on certain sites whilst acting all grown up by cutting and pasting real articles on other sites
OK, but this isn't 606 so you have to leave that **** behind and move on. Give people a chance, whatever they might have said in the other place.
