Could have worked against Everton for defending balls into the box, but not a tactic for this. We should be looking to settle on the ball and get our fullbacks into the game
It might have worked against Everton but that game has gone so we shall never know. I would like to see how Jos fares alongside Maya as his strength in the air would be useful.
from what I saw of Reeves, he looks a tidy player. Plays the simple ball then looks for the return, slight build but tough and as most wingers are not the biggest guys this should not be a problem, fairly quick and has an attacking attitude. We looked more balanced and dangerous when he came on, but that may be just Everton guarding thier lead. Would have liked to see Shaw but obviously he was out. Has been really unlucky with injuries which has held him back, have not seen him defending but seems to have a good brain, I think he would be the complete opposite to Fox, he would not be drawn out of position, not give the winger all the freedom in the world and would not try 50 yard crossfield passes.
I'd play fox and clyne, but get lallana and punch to provide cover from wings! Gaston up with Rickie. In the middle the best of who is fit.
I always thought that the idea of attacking wing backs was one where if they ran forward somebody covered their run. Maybe Nigel has to get the other players to work the system better.
Reality is it's been a massive learning curve for the whole squad. With the greatest respect top the Championship there is a huge gulf between Brighton, Forest et al and Arsenal, City and United. Add on Everton and it's not a surprise the players have struggled. We will be OK though!
I agree and sometimes though disappointed after a poor game can accept in hindsight that we are still learning. It does help when we see improvement which has been the case lately. I also imagine/hope that Nigel is still waiting to see his best eleven play together.
